La Salud invites you to our annual D\u00eda de Los Muertos event, which will take place on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the School of Social Work in the Educational Conference Center (ECC) room SW 1840 (1080 S University Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48109).<\/p>\n

We are incredibly excited to collaborate with PHSAD, HBHESA, LISWA,\u00a0 and MENAPH to put on this event which will include food, music, arts & crafts, a special performance, and more!<\/p>\n

D\u00eda de los Muertos is a special day to honor and celebrate our ancestors. It’s a time of reflection, remembrance, and joy as we celebrate those who have passed. Join us in celebration to learn more about this meaningful day and view our ofrendas (ancestral altars). If you’d like to contribute, you can add a photo and\/or share a written memory of a loved one to be framed and placed on our community altar; please fill out this Altar form by 5 PM on October 23rd.<\/p>\n

The three day celebration features elaborate memorials to loved ones that have passed built by community members, on Saturday Nov 2 @2pm a sugar skull decorating contest & a Catrin y Catrina sugar skull dress up contest for fun prizes!<\/p>\n

On Saturday November 2 @3pm enjoy a D\u00eda de Los Muertos themed Folklorico dance performance by Maria Luz Ballet Folklorico of Lansing with MC DJ Mingo.<\/p>\n

Now through November 3, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n

In celebration of D\u00eda de Muertos, the Detroit Institute of Arts, in partnership with Detroit’s Mexican Consulate, the Southwest Detroit Business Association and Mexicantown CDC, invite you to explore a community exhibition of ofrenda altars. In Mexico, and other Latin American countries, the Day of the Dead is the time of the year to celebrate the lives of close relatives, friends or community members who have passed away.<\/p>\n

Objects important to lost loved ones, such as favorites foods, drinks, mementos and pictures, are collected and incorporated into elaborate displays that include pan de muerto (bread of the dead), sugar skulls, candles, flowers, papel picado (paper cutouts) and other decorations.<\/p>\n

Free with general admission<\/p>\n

* Drop in Workshop: Sugar Skulls<\/strong> in DIA’s Art-Making Studio. Learn how sugar skulls are used for Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexican and Mexican American communities while you decorate one of your own. En celebraci\u00f3n del D\u00eda de Muertos, el Instituto de Artes de Detroit en colaboraci\u00f3n con el Consulado de M\u00e9xico en Detroit y la Asociaci\u00f3n de Negocios del Suroeste de Detroit te invita a explorar una exposici\u00f3n comunitaria de ofrendas. En M\u00e9xico y otros pa\u00edses latinoamericanos, el D\u00eda de Muertos es una \u00e9poca del a\u00f1o en la que se celebran las vidas de familiares cercanos, amigos o miembros de la comunidad que han fallecido.<\/p>\n
