These resources include over-the-counter oral birth control pills, emergency contraception,\u00a0condoms\u00a0and family planning educational resources.\u00a0This\u00a0program,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/links-1.govdelivery.com\/CL0\/https:%2F%2Finitial%2F\/1\/010001932530bcf7-3d48b1e6-c6cc-4aaf-991a-1d1d09dbf8a2-000000\/XchEXtw0Fst8bt1cc11pt8xUvfxoayi9HFqUOj75aOk=378\">initially announced<\/a>\u00a0in October,\u00a0expands access to contraception,\u00a0supporting\u00a0reproductive\u00a0health\u00a0and empowering Michiganders to make\u00a0informed\u00a0family planning decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Participating locations include community partners, local health departments, MDHHS offices,\u00a0and federally qualified health centers in every county of the state. Michigan families are encouraged to visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/links-1.govdelivery.com\/CL0\/https:%2F%2Fwww.michigan.gov%2Fmdhhs%2Fadult-child-serv%2Fchildrenfamilies%2Ffamilyhealth%2Ffamilyplanning%2Ftake-control-of-your-birth-control\/1\/010001932530bcf7-3d48b1e6-c6cc-4aaf-991a-1d1d09dbf8a2-000000\/W5dQ-_mrngCyMWJl603CaTG7iUKf7wUKIUx_98fIatY=378\">michigan.gov\/takecontrol<\/a>\u00a0to find an interactive map of participating organizations and learn more about how to access these essential resources.\u202fThe emergency contraception, condoms,\u00a0and over-the-counter oral contraceptives are available regardless of insurance and will continue\u00a0as long as\u00a0supplies are available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone deserves the freedom to make their own decisions about their reproductive health,\u201d said\u00a0<em>Governor Whitmer.<\/em> \u201cWith over 300 locations\u00a0across\u00a0Michigan now offering free birth\u00a0control,\u00a0emergency\u00a0contraception, and other essential reproductive health tools,\u00a0we are\u00a0taking\u00a0action to\u00a0ensure\u00a0that all Michiganders have the support they need.\u00a0\u00a0Decisions about reproductive health care should be between a woman, her doctor, and her trusted community.\u00a0In Michigan, we must\u00a0always\u00a0protect\u00a0your\u00a0fundamental right\u00a0to\u00a0control your health and your future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0goal of this program is to ensure individuals, regardless of their circumstances, have access to tools that allow them to make\u00a0their own\u00a0decisions about their health and future,\u201d said<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Chief Medical Executive.<\/em> \u201cWe appreciate the overwhelming support we have received from organizations willing to help distribute free contraception resources to individuals. We want to make sure individuals who need and want these tools can easily obtain them. This campaign reflects the state\u2019s ongoing commitment to ensuring\u00a0equitable\u00a0access to reproductive health services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alongside free supplies,\u00a0<em>Take Control of Your Birth Control<\/em>\u00a0will give Michiganders the information they need to continue to get vital supplies covered going forward. The initiative provides information on how\u00a0to use insurance to get free or lost-cost birth control.\u00a0\u00a0For those without insurance,\u00a0the program provides a guide\u00a0to applying\u00a0for coverage through Medicaid and the Plan First! program, which offer health care coverage for a variety of family planning services, including birth control, STI testing,\u00a0and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2023,\u00a0<em>Plan First!<\/em> is a limited Medicaid benefit covering family planning services for those who do not qualify for traditional Medicaid.
