This event will highlight the internationally acclaimed Familia Linares, renowned folk artists from Mexico City, and their rich artistic tradition of <em>Cartoner\u00eda<\/em>\u2014the intricate craft of Mexican paper sculpture. SPACES is located at 2900 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will feature a screening of the 1975 documentary <em>Pedro Linares Artesano Cartonero, <\/em>directed by <em>Judith Bronowski.<\/em> This film chronicles the Linares family&#8217;s legacy in <em>Cartoner\u00eda<\/em> and their central role in the <em>Quema de Judas<\/em> tradition, an iconic <em>Semana Santa<\/em> ritual in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Following the screening, <em>H\u00e9ctor Castellanos Lara<\/em>, co-founder of <em>Artistas Latinos Unidos (ALU),<\/em> will introduce the Linares family and formally welcome them to Cleveland, honoring their artistic contributions and cultural significance. The discussion will then be moderated by <em>Orlando Caraballo,<\/em> who will engage in conversation with SHED Projects co-founders <em>Gabrielle Banzhaf and Jon Gott. <\/em>Together, they will explore the evolution of this collaboration, tracing its roots from the 2019 ALEBRIJE program, curated by Jon Gott at the Sandusky Cultural Center, to the Semana Santa program today. The conversation will examine the artistic, historical, and cultural significance of Cartoner\u00eda, as well as the importance of fostering international artistic exchange and community-driven storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free and open to the public.
