Ninety-five (95) year-old Dolores Huerta was at the University of Michigan (UM) on March 31, 2025, to celebrate Cesar Ch\u00e1vez\u2019s birthday and their Day of Service and Learning. This event was an intergenerational \u201cplatica\u201d (talk) with community members, college students, UM administration, and busloads of students who were able to ask her questions from Cristo Rey, the Academy of the Americas, and the Cesar Chavez Academy, all from SW Detroit, Michigan.<\/p>\n

Dolores spoke on the importance of knowing our Latinx history and remembering it. She encouraged the audience to \u201cfight back economically, to boycott, march, protest, and to VOTE!\u201d<\/strong> She said that whatever we do, we must always \u201cmake the time\u201d to do what is right and she had the audience chanting \u201c<\/strong>Si Se Pudo\u201d (Yes, we Did!), \u201c<\/strong>Si Se Puede\u201d (Yes, We Can!) y (and) \u201c<\/strong>Si Se Podr\u00e1!\u201d (Yes, We Will)<\/strong> in the Rackham Auditorium.<\/p>\n

Dolores Huerta is co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), which was originally founded under the name of the United Farm Workers Union with Cesar Chavez in 1962. She is a civil rights activist and community organizer, who has worked in this field for over 50 years. She is also the founder of her own foundation, the Dolores Huerta Foundation, which she started after receiving the Puffin\/Nation $100,000 prize for Creative Citizenship. The Dolores Huerta \"\"<\/a>Foundation is a community-based organizing foundation that focuses on educational reform, improving low-income community infrastructures, and that advocates for LGBT communities.<\/p>\n
