Early morning, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the roof of the Jet Set nightclub collapsed during a concert creating one of the worst disasters the Dominican Republic has ever experienced and plunging the nation into despair.<\/p>\n

Jet Set was hosting a merengue concert with a \u201cWho\u2019s Who\u201d guest list enjoying a Monday night dance, a decades-old tradition party.<\/p>\n

The death toll at more than 200, keeps climbing.\u00a0 Among those killed and or injured includes famous baseball player Octavio Dotel,<\/strong> a 15-season Major League Baseball (MLB) veteran. Dotel started his pitching career with the New York Mets in 1999, ending with the Detroit Tigers in 2013. While with the St. Louis Cardinals, the team won the 2011 World Series.<\/p>\n

Tony Enrique Blanco Cabrera (aka Tony Blanco)<\/strong> was also killed. He began his career with the Boston Red Sox\u2019s farm system as a third baseman and was later traded to the Cincinnati Reds as a player to be named later in 2002. He played in various minor leagues and had a stint with the Washington Nationals in 2005, their inaugural season. His son, Tony Jr., plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league.<\/p>\n

In addition, 69-year-old merengue icon performer Rubby <\/strong>P\u00e9rez<\/strong> was also killed while performing with his son-in-law and daughter, Zulinka P\u00e9rez, who managed to survive, thanks to her husband who told her to run or else they would leave their son orphaned. Rubby P\u00e9rez is known for his Billboard<\/em> hits, \u201cTu Vas a Volar,\u201d \u201cEnamorado de Ella,\u201d and \u201c15,500 Noches\u201d with Romeo Santos, To\u00f1o Rosario, Fernandito Villalona, and Raman Orlando (www.billboard.com).<\/p>\n

And a governor of Monte Cristi province, Dominican Republic, Nelsy Cruz,<\/strong> also a member of the Dominican Republic\u2019s Congress, and sister of \u201cformer baseball player Nelson Cruz\u201d who was a 7-time Major League Baseball All-Star (www.bbc.com<\/a>) was killed.<\/p>\n

While these names or positions are prominently known, let\u2019s not forget the more than 200 other victims who were iconic to their family and friends.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Officials continue to look for victims as it has now become a recovery process. While the Authorities are unsure how many people were inside the club at the time of the collapse, they have recovered 189.<\/p>\n

There are not enough words to express the immense loss and pain this tragedy has caused.<\/p>\n

The Dominican Republic is a strong country, and together they will unite and provide much-needed comfort to all.<\/p>\n

Temprano en la ma\u00f1ana del martes, 8 de abril de 2025, el techo del club nocturno Jet Set se derrumb\u00f3 durante un concierto, creando uno de los peores desastres que la Rep\u00fablica Dominicana haya experimentado y hundo a la naci\u00f3n en la desesperaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Jet Set estaba organizando un concierto de merengue con una lista de invitados de “Who’s Who” disfrutando de una fiesta tradicional de d\u00e9cadas de antig\u00fcedad.<\/p>\n

El n\u00famero de muertos en m\u00e1s de 200, e sigue subiendo. Entre los muertos y heridos se encuentra el famoso jugador de b\u00e9isbol Octavio Dotel,<\/strong> un veterano de las Grandes Ligas de B\u00e9isbol (MLB) de 15 temporadas. Dotel comenz\u00f3 su carrera como lanzador con los Mets de Nueva York en 1999, terminando con los Tigres de Detroit en 2013. Mientras estaba con el St. Louis Cardinals, cuando el equipo gan\u00f3 la Serie Mundial de 2011.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n fallecieron una gobernadora de la provincia de Monte Cristi, Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, Nelsy Cruz,<\/strong> tambi\u00e9n un miembro del Congreso de la Rep\u00fablica Dominicana y hermana del “ex jugador de b\u00e9isbol Nelson Cruz,” que fue 7 veces All-Star de las Grandes Ligas de B\u00e9isbol (www.bbc.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Si bien estos nombres o posiciones son muy conocidos, no olvidemos a las m\u00e1s de 200 v\u00edctimas que fueron emblem\u00e1ticas para sus familiares y amigos.

\nLos funcionarios contin\u00faan buscando v\u00edctimas, ya que ahora se ha convertido en un proceso de recuperaci\u00f3n. Las autoridades no est\u00e1n seguras de cu\u00e1ntas personas hab\u00eda dentro del club en el momento del colapso, han recuperado 189 personas<\/p>\n

No hay suficientes palabras para expresar la inmensa p\u00e9rdida y dolor que esta tragedia ha causado.<\/p>\n

La Rep\u00fablica Dominicana es un pa\u00eds fuerte, y juntos se unir\u00e1n y proporcionar\u00e1n el consuelo tan necesario a todos.<\/p>\n
