\"\"<\/a>Local Latinx & Toledo Public School (TPS) student, Tyreese Blue II,<\/strong> was named2025 Youth of the Year by the Ohio Alliance of the Boys & Girls Clubs.<\/strong> Tyreese is a 17-year-old student who will be graduating this spring from TPS\u2019s Toledo Early College and receiving an associate\u2019s degree, at the same time, from the University of Toledo (UToledo). He has also committed himself to attending UToledo in construction engineering technology.\u00a0To receive this recognition and a $15,000 scholarship, Tyreese had to compete against numerous other contestants. He had to submit three (3) essays, two (2) letters of recommendation, give a speech to the scholarship committee at a luncheon at The Athletic Club in Columbus (OH), maintain a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) or above, and be an active member of the Boys & Girls Club. Next, Tyreese will travel to Chicago, Illinois, in June to compete for the Midwest Youth of the Year competition.<\/p>\n

According to TPS\u2019s website, during his speech, Tyreese talked about how he could have been a statistic because he was born to a teenage mother, and he said he was \u201cproud to represent a culture that values resilience and hard work.” He said, “My culture has shaped who I am, and this achievement is as much the community\u2019s as it is mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also shared, according to the TPS website, how important it is for programs and adults to encourage and be there for our youth. He shared that when he entered the Club, he was given a \u201cgoody\u201d bag that had a card inside of it that read: \u201cYou are seen. You are valued. You belong here,\u201d and he said that caused him to feel \u201csomething I hadn\u2019t felt in a long time: I felt accepted\u201d at the Boys & Girls Club. According to the Ohio Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs\u2019 press release, Tyreese was chosen for his \u201cadvocacy efforts, ambition, and strong character.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tyreese Blue II, estudiante de 17 a\u00f1os, se graduar\u00e1 esta primavera del Toledo Early College de TPS y, al mismo tiempo, obtendr\u00e1 un t\u00edtulo de asociado de la Universidad de Toledo (UToledo). Tambi\u00e9n se ha comprometido a estudiar tecnolog\u00eda de ingenier\u00eda de la construcci\u00f3n en UToledo.<\/em><\/p>\n

Para recibir este reconocimiento y una beca de $15,000, Tyreese tuvo que competir contra muchos otros concursantes. Tuvo que presentar tres (3) ensayos, dos (2) cartas de recomendaci\u00f3n, dar un discurso ante el comit\u00e9 de becas en un almuerzo en The Athletic Club en Columbus (OH), mantener un promedio de calificaciones (GPA) de 2.5 o superior y ser miembro activo del Boys & Girls Club.
