Upcoming Rally . . . and Unmask ICE Agents<\/strong><\/p>\n

Good Trouble Lives On Rally– July 17, 2025<\/strong>
\nAn action critical for countering attacks on our democracy involves the nationwide rallies being held. Attendance must reach the 3.5 Rule or 11 million individuals at which level such rallies have never failed to achieve their goals.<\/p>\n

Demand the Unmasking of ICE Agents<\/strong>
\nIn recent months, there have been increasing reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents concealing their identities, such as in the high-profile kidnapping of grad student R\u00fcmeysa \u00d6zt\u00fcrk and the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. ICE agents have been documented wearing masks and plain clothes, misleading police, and using unmarked vehicles. They have also been refusing to identify themselves or the agency they work for as they conduct \u201cmasked abductions,\u201d prompting questions about the legality and ethics of law enforcement operating without basic transparency.<\/p>\n

This anonymity and lack of accountability have also broken public trust in law enforcement. Across the country, several people have been charged with impersonating ICE agents to demand money, solicit sexual favors, kidnap people, and terrorize already vulnerable communities. The murderer of Minnesota state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband also posed as a police officer. \u201cThe lines have blurred, not just between enforcement and abuse, but between officer and imposter,\u201d leaving victims and bystanders alike uncertain how to act in these dubious situations.<\/p>\n

Lawmakers in California have introduced legislation requiring the identity and affiliation of ICE agents to be displayed while interacting with the public. Additionally on the federal level, Rep. Nydia Vel\u00e1zquez (D-NY) has introduced the No Masks for ICE Act to bring \u201cbasic transparency and accountability to immigration enforcement\u201d and combat the climate of fear, chaos, and confusion caused by these anonymous perpetrators.
\nTransparency and accountability in law enforcement are a matter of public safety.<\/p>\n

A Call to Action- Contact your Elected Representatives
\nCall both your state and federal level representatives to support and enact laws to ensure the proper identification by ICE agents.<\/p>\n

It is very simple to contact your U.S. Senator or House member or State representatives. You will be asked to enter your location. Next, the system called \u201c5 Calls\u201d will figure out which individuals they suggest that you call. (Note: Your 5-digit zip code alone may not accurately determine your state level representatives. Enter your full address or 9-digit zip code as your Location– to ensure the correct state-level public officials are provided to you.)<\/p>\n

\u201c5 Calls\u201d researches selected issues, writes a short, clear script, and then provides access to the phone numbers of your legislators. A list of priority issues is provided on the homepage of the 5 Calls website. This will enable you to call a staff member in your legislator\u2019s office in order for you to read a short script over the phone that 5 Calls prepares. If your call is after hours or the staff is busy, you may be asked to leave a voicemail. (Note: IF LEAVING VOICEMAIL: Please leave a short and concise message and also include your full street address to ensure that your call is tallied.)<\/p>\n

The staff members of your representatives summarize all calls received, and highlight the specific issue being addressed. And legislators do look at the issues being raised by voters contacting their office and can be impacted by voter opinions.<\/p>\n

And one of the issues that 5 Calls is assisting is titled- Demand the Unmasking of ICE Agents — that was provided above. Use the information at the beginning of this email to create your own script or use the short script that 5 Calls prepares. And then, by going to the 5 Calls website, it is very simple to obtain the phone number(s) of your U.S. Senator or House member or State representatives.<\/p>\n
