Defiance\u2019s (OH) Latin American Club\u2019s Opening of the Latin Community Center Exhibit kicked off on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 1-4 pm in the Andrew L. Tuttle Memorial Museum at 514 W. Third Street in Defiance, Ohio. The Andrew L. Tuttle Memorial Museum is founded on the belief that \u201cHistory is to our community, as memory is to the individual.\u201d\u00a0 Its mission is \u201cto foster an understanding and appreciation by people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests of an inclusive history of the City of Defiance and its immediate surrounding area by responsibly collecting, conserving, and interpreting the area\u2019s natural and cultural history for the benefit of present and future generations.\u201d The Latin Community Center Exhibit kickoff highlights our Latinx history in Defiance and the surrounding area. It features a photo of Antonia \u201cToddie\u201d Leal and her infamous stoneware for cooking rice and beans, as well as pictures from the Hispanic Awareness Organization and the Latin American Club, alongside Native American artifacts. What’s more, this event was filled with many of the original Hispanic and Latinx organizational founders and or their children (now adults) who were volunteering to keep our Latinx local history and culture alive. Even our very own, Christina (Tina) Trevino, daughter of Bertha and Christian Trevino of Defiance, was present from New York, where she resides, with her new bilingual books that she has recently authored: Where El Cucuy Lurks; El Rancho Chocolat\u00e9; and Where the Road Leads, A Migrant Family\u2019s Adventure. Next week\u2019s edition of La Prensa will have an in-depth interview with Author Christina Trevino, so stay posted.<\/p>\n

La inauguraci\u00f3n de la Exhibici\u00f3n del Centro Comunitario Latino del Club Latinoamericano de Defiance (OH) se celebr\u00f3 el domingo 7 de septiembre de 2025, de 1:00 p.m. a 4:00 p.m., en el Museo Conmemorativo Andrew L. Tuttle, ubicado en 514 W. Third Street, en Defiance, Ohio. El Museo Conmemorativo Andrew L. Tuttle se basa en la convicci\u00f3n de que \u201cLa historia es para nuestra comunidad, como la memoria es para el individuo.\u201d Su misi\u00f3n es \u201cfomentar la comprensi\u00f3n y el aprecio, por parte de personas de todas las edades, or\u00edgenes e intereses, de una historia inclusiva de la ciudad de Defiance y sus alrededores, mediante la recopilaci\u00f3n, conservaci\u00f3n e interpretaci\u00f3n responsables de la historia natural y cultural de la zona para beneficio de las generaciones presentes y en el futuro.\u201d La inauguraci\u00f3n de la Exhibici\u00f3n del Centro Comunitario Latino es de nuestra historia latina en Defiance y sus alrededores, y tiene una foto de Antonia \u201cToddie\u201d Leal y su famoso caldero para cocinar arroz y frijoles, im\u00e1genes del Hispanic Awareness Organizaci\u00f3n y el Club Latinoamericano, junto con artefactos nativos americanos. Adem\u00e1s, este evento cont\u00f3 con la presencia de muchos de los fundadores originales de organizaciones hispanas y latinas y sus hijos (ahora adultos) que se ofrecieron como voluntarios para mantener viva nuestra historia y cultura latina local.
