La Prensa, Inc. tours \u201cThe oldest continually-operating school in Toledo, Ohio, Queen of Apostles (often remembered under its previous name of Immaculate Conception)\u201d that has served Toledo since 1876 (for more information visit https:\/\/ccmt419.org\/discover-qoa<\/a>).\u00a0Queen of Apostles is located at 235 Courtland Ave., in the historic Southend of Toledo, and serves all students, regardless of their ethnicity or religious background, and is especially dedicated to serving the Spanish speaking population with its multiple bilingual staff members.<\/p>\n

According to their principal, Mr. John Hargen, a native Spanish speaker of Puerto Rico, Queen of Apostles is a central city K-8 diocesan school, a part of the Central City Ministry of Toledo (CCMT) that, according to their website, \u201cprovides a strong academic and religious education to a diverse population while focusing on personal growth and compassion for others.\u201d CCMT believes that \u201call humans are made in the image of God;\u201d that \u201call humans have innate dignity;\u201d and that \u201cbecause of their dignity, all humans have a right to a quality education.\u201d Therefore, according to their principal, the school strives to develop life-long learners that are prepared to contribute to their community, have a pathway out of poverty, and hope for a bright future. Because our faith tells us that the Kingdom of Heaven will be filled with a great multitude “from every nation, race, people, and tongue” (Revelation 7:9). Therefore, the more diverse our school, the more it resembles Heaven; so, we believe diversity is a great strength.<\/p>\n

The classrooms at the school are currently small, with roughly 10 students in each grade\/classroom. The school only has one classroom per grade. Tuition for the 2025-2026 school year is $8,400, which is based off the cost to educate each student, and 100% of their students receive financial assistance to help pay for the cost of their education.\u00a0Their educational program follows the Diocese of Toledo Course of Study and offers CYO sports, counseling services, after-school programming, tutoring and mentoring services. They even partner with Partners in Education to provide students with the College & Career Ready, Set, Go program while also providing a\u00a0free breakfast and lunch<\/a>\u00a0to all their students! What I found most amazing about this school was the fact that all the children I greeted and in all the classrooms that I visited, all the students and teachers, regardless of race or ethnicity, spoke to me bilingually, in Spanish and English. And when we asked the students what they loved about their school, one student said she loved the mass (church service), and another student said he loved art and math. Seg\u00fan su director, el Sr. John Hargen, hispanohablante nativo de Puerto Rico, Reina de los Ap\u00f3stoles es una escuela diocesana de K-8 en el centro de la ciudad, parte del Ministerio de la Ciudad Central de Toledo (CCMT) que, seg\u00fan su sitio web, \u201cofrece una s\u00f3lida educaci\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica y religiosa a una poblaci\u00f3n diversa, a la vez que se centra en el crecimiento personal y la compasi\u00f3n por los dem\u00e1s.\u201d El CCMT cree que \u201ctodos los seres humanos est\u00e1n hechos a imagen de Dios;\u201d que \u201ctodos los seres humanos tienen dignidad innata;\u201d y que \u201cpor su dignidad, todos los seres humanos tienen derecho a una educaci\u00f3n de calidad.\u201d Por lo tanto, seg\u00fan su director, la escuela se esfuerza por formar estudiantes de por vida, preparados para contribuir a su comunidad, y a tener una salida a la pobreza y la esperanza de un futuro brillante. Porque nuestra fe nos dice que el Reino de los Cielos estar\u00e1 lleno de una gran multitud \u201cde toda naci\u00f3n, raza, pueblo y lengua\u201d (Apocalipsis 7:9). Por lo tanto, cuanto m\u00e1s diversa sea nuestra escuela, m\u00e1s se asemeja al Cielo; por eso, creemos que la diversidad es una gran fortaleza.<\/p>\n

Las aulas de la escuela son actualmente peque\u00f1as, con aproximadamente 10 estudiantes en cada grado\/aula. La escuela solo tiene un aula por grado. La matr\u00edcula para el a\u00f1o escolar 2025-2026 es de $8,400, que se basa en el costo de la educaci\u00f3n de cada estudiante, y el 100% de sus estudiantes reciben asistencia financiera para ayudar a cubrir el costo de su educaci\u00f3n. Su programa educativo sigue el Plan de Estudios de la Di\u00f3cesis de Toledo y ofrece deportes CYO, servicios de consejer\u00eda, programas extraescolares, tutor\u00edas y mentor\u00edas. Incluso colaboran con Partners in Education para ofrecer a los estudiantes el programa College & Career Ready, Set, Go, \u00a1adem\u00e1s tienen el desayuno y almuerzo gratuitos! Lo que m\u00e1s me sorprendi\u00f3 de esta escuela fue que todos los ni\u00f1os que salud\u00e9 y en todas las aulas que visit\u00e9, todos los estudiantes y maestra\/os, sin importar su raza o etnia, me hablaron biling\u00fcemente, en espa\u00f1ol e ingl\u00e9s. Y cuando les preguntamos a los estudiantes qu\u00e9 les gustaba de su escuela, una dijo que le encantaba la misa y otro que le encantaba el arte y las matem\u00e1ticas.
