TOLEDO<\/strong>, Ohio, Jan. 29, 2025: The John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation<\/a>\u00a0 and the\u00a0Health Council of Northwest Ohio<\/a> (HCNO), in partnership with a coalition of community organizations,\u00a0have come together to ensure the continued operation of Schools as Community Hubs across\u00a0seven high-need Toledo neighborhoods through the end of the 2025\u20132026 school year.<\/p>\n

This collaborative effort is supported by a $245,000 grant from the John Henry Eldred Jr.\u00a0Foundation, designed to strengthen multi-organization partnerships addressing complex\u00a0community challenges through coordinated services and shared outcomes. The investment\u00a0ensures there will be no interruption in services for students, families, and residents while\u00a0partners work collectively to preserve and strengthen this vital place-based strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor more than a decade, Schools as Community Hubs have been a cornerstone of\u00a0neighborhood support in Toledo,\u201d said Mike Deetsch, executive director of the John Henry\u00a0Eldred Jr. Foundation. \u201cThis grant reflects our commitment to collaboration and shared\u00a0accountability \u2014 ensuring trusted community partners can continue meeting essential needs\u00a0while building toward a stronger, more sustainable future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHCNO is honored to serve as the fiscal agent and backbone partner for this collaborative\u00a0effort,\u201d said Hayley Studer, President of the Health Council of Northwest Ohio. \u201cThis\u00a0funding allows our network to maintain continuity for families and communities while we work\u00a0together on a long-term, sustainable model that strengthens the Hubs system for years to\u00a0come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since 2011, the Schools as Community Hubs model has connected students, families, and\u00a0residents to essential resources, including educational support, housing stability, food security,\u00a0healthcare access, and other social drivers of well-being. The model is grounded in collective\u00a0action, shared leadership, and community-driven solutions.<\/p>\n
