Would you be concerned that the Ohio\u2019s Department of Transportation (ODOT) admits, in their air quality analysis specific to this project, that the EPA identifies nine carcinogenic highway compounds, each likely drifting onto your property 24\/7, along with other noxious highway pollutants? <\/em><\/p>\n

Could you endure the sleepless nights and exhausting expenses resulting from health detriments for yourself, your children, or your elders with asthma, heart disease, dementia, developmental delays, low birth weights, premature death, or more? <\/em><\/p>\n

In fact, each of these harms is attributable to highway pollutants, validated by scientific studies. Evidence of harms is reported by the American Heart Association, the Lung Association, and the Audiology Association, to name just a few.<\/p>\n

Therefore, when is ODOT\u2019s credibility called into question? <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In attempts to justify their plan under the guise of economic development, ODOT projected a 59% increase in regional trucking. Yet, they cannot substantiate that claim with evidence when requested under sunshine law provisions. So, how credible then are their purported economic prosperity claims from trucking increases?<\/em><\/p>\n

Are the harms endured by thousands of residents, whose current property lines are approximately 50-60 feet away, worth unsubstantiated trucking promises?<\/em> Surely ODOT knows that harms from diesel engines are far worse than gasoline.<\/p>\n

What happens for nearby people, from school children to elders, when the highway width increases up to double?<\/em><\/p>\n

And, after investing in a property which you could afford and establishing community with your neighbors, would you be insulted by remarks like \u201cjust move if you don\u2019t like progress,\u201d stated at times by those with self-serving highway interests?<\/em><\/p>\n

Who determines it is \u201cprogress\u201d to propel our neighborhoods toward further car-centric outcomes then already exist? <\/em><\/p>\n

If you rent your residence, would you be insulted if you weren\u2019t even considered a resident by ODOT?<\/em> They classify apartments or townhomes as commercial property, discounting you as a person, greater than single-family property owners are discounted.<\/p>\n

The I-475 Neighborhoods Coalition is in our sixth year of opposing \u00a0the unnecessary expansion demanded by ODOT and other elites, most not living in our neighborhoods or in Toledo at all. Six years of research and study demonstrates nothing to redeem the project, certainly not on balance with any unproven benefit.<\/p>\n

Por lo tanto, \u00bfcu\u00e1ndo se cuestiona la credibilidad del ODOT? <\/strong><\/p>\n

En un intento por justificar su plan bajo el pretexto del desarrollo econ\u00f3mico, el ODOT proyect\u00f3 un aumento del 59% en el transporte regional por carretera. Sin embargo, no pueden fundamentar esa afirmaci\u00f3n con pruebas cuando se les solicita bajo las disposiciones de la ley de transparencia. \u00bfAcaso los perjuicios que sufren miles de residentes, cuyos l\u00edmites de propiedad actuales est\u00e1n a aproximadamente 15-18 metros de distancia, justifican las promesas infundadas sobre el transporte por carretera?<\/em> Seguramente el ODOT sabe que los perjuicios de los motores di\u00e9sel son mucho peores que los de gasolina.<\/p>\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 sucede con las personas cercanas, desde ni\u00f1os en edad escolar hasta ancianos, cuando el ancho de la carretera se duplica?<\/em><\/p>\n

Y, despu\u00e9s de invertir en una propiedad asequible y establecer una comunidad con sus vecinos, \u00bfse sentir\u00eda insultado por comentarios como “m\u00fadese si no le gusta el progreso,” que a veces pronuncian quienes tienen intereses ego\u00edstas en las carreteras?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bfQui\u00e9n considera “progreso” impulsar nuestros vecindarios hacia resultados m\u00e1s centrados en el autom\u00f3vil que los que ya existen? Si alquila su vivienda, \u00bfse sentir\u00eda ofendido si el ODOT ni siquiera lo considerara residente?<\/em> Clasifican los apartamentos o casas adosadas como propiedades comerciales, lo que los desestima como persona, m\u00e1s que a los propietarios de viviendas unifamiliares.<\/p>\n

La Coalici\u00f3n de Vecindarios de la I-475 lleva seis a\u00f1os oponi\u00e9ndose a la expansi\u00f3n innecesaria que exige el ODOT y otras \u00e9lites, la mayor\u00eda de las cuales no residen en nuestros vecindarios ni en Toledo. Seis a\u00f1os de investigaci\u00f3n y estudio no demuestran nada que justifique el proyecto, y mucho menos, en general, ning\u00fan beneficio no comprobado.<\/p>\n
