The Association Two Toledos, one of our city\u2019s 12 international sister city partnerships, will be holding their 46th H.S. Spanish Honors Night at the West Toledo Branch Library on March 19, 2026. At least 15 high school students from schools throughout the metropolitan area will be recognized for their exceptional achievement in the study of Spanish language and culture. The objective of this event will be to celebrate the students\u2019 dedication and to encourage them to continue with their studies of the Spanish language in college. The award night is not only for students but also for parents and teachers.<\/p>\n
The Association of Two Toledos has awarded numerous scholarships to both college students from Toledo who have excelled in the study of Spanish and to area Spanish teachers who would like to hone their language skills in Spain. In March,\u00a0 AoTT will award $1,000 to a college student selected by a committee from the University of Toledo and AoTT. This student will study Spanish during the summer at the University of Castilla – La Mancha in Toledo, Spain. During next year\u2019s annual Honor Program, this student will give a presentation about his\/her experiences in our Spanish sister city.<\/p>\n
This year, one of the 2025 scholarship recipients, Brooke Blodgett, a student from the University of Toledo, will talk about the value of this program, her activities and experiences at the University of Castilla – La Mancha.<\/p>\n
The Honors program will feature speaker Danny Vetter. He is an educator with the Toledo Public Schools, and has traveled extensively to Latin America and Spain.<\/p>\n
We will be entertained by the \u201cThree Amigos\u201d group who will\u00a0 play music from Spain such as Clavelitos and La Rondalla, as well as traditional tunes from Latin America.\u00a0 Members of the Association of Two Toledos will serve snacks, display authentic artifacts, jewelry, and books from Toledo, Spain.<\/p>\n
It is important to mention that the Association of Two Toledos was established in 1931, making 2026 its 95th anniversary year. It is the world\u2019s oldest formally recognized Sister City relationship, fostering cultural awareness, and appreciation between Toledo, Ohio and Toledo, Spain.<\/p>\n
Through events like the annual Spanish Honors Night, monthly Spanish Conversation Dinners (La Cena), sponsoring cultural and social events, and scholarship fundraising, the Association of Two Toledos continues to promote cross-cultural understanding and support students in the pursuit of Spanish language and cultural competence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
