HARM TO CHILDREN\u2019S HEALTH MATTERS FAR MORE THAN\u00a0<\/strong>AN EXPANSION TO I-475 <\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 5 pm, the I-475 Neighborhoods Coalition<\/em> hosted a free community presentation on the harmful effects of highway pollutants on children’s health, attracting a full house at Monroe Street United Methodist Church (3613 Monroe Street). Dr. Patrick Ryan, PhD, MS, a professor at the University of Cincinnati\u2019s Department of Pediatrics and Department of Environmental Health, was the speaker. Participants enjoyed pizza, veggies with dip, sweets, and they had resource tables.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ryan has researched the impact of highway pollutants on children’s health for 25 years. His findings include damage to brain development, increased childhood asthma, anxiety, and depression. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Health Effects Institute. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers.<\/p>\n

According to the I-475 Neighborhoods Coalition Coordinator, Peggy Daly-Masternak, \u201cthe I-475 Neighborhoods Coalition<\/em> is in its sixth year of opposing the expansion of I-475. This construction, according to Peggy, will cost taxpayers over a quarter of a billion dollars and create 4.5 years of construction gridlock. She says, \u201cIt will increase the substantial noise and air pollution already caused by this interstate. And its impact will be felt daily by the tens of thousands of nearby school children, infants, and toddlers in child care facilities, and the workers and families in our neighborhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n

El mi\u00e9rcoles 18 de marzo de 2026, a las 17:00, la Coalici\u00f3n de Vecindarios de la I-475<\/em> organiz\u00f3 una presentaci\u00f3n comunitaria y gratuita sobre los efectos nocivos de los contaminantes en las carreteras y en la salud infantil. Este presentaci\u00f3n fue ante un p\u00fablico lleno en la Iglesia Metodista Unida de Monroe Street (3613 Monroe Street). El Dr. Patrick Ryan, PhD, MS, profesor en el Departamento de Pediatr\u00eda y el Departamento de Salud Ambiental de la Universidad de Cincinnati,\u00a0 era el orador. Seg\u00fan la coordinadora de la Coalici\u00f3n de Vecindarios de la I-475, Peggy Daly-Masternak, “la Coalici\u00f3n de Vecindarios de la I-475<\/em> est\u00e1 en su sexto a\u00f1o oponi\u00e9ndose a la expansi\u00f3n de la I-475. Esta construcci\u00f3n, seg\u00fan Peggy, costar\u00e1 a los contribuyentes m\u00e1s de un cuarto de mil millones de d\u00f3lares y crear\u00e1 4,5 a\u00f1os de estancamiento en la construcci\u00f3n. Ella dice: “Aumentar\u00e1 la considerable contaminaci\u00f3n ac\u00fastica y atmosf\u00e9rica que ya causa esta autopista.
