The protest had approximately 200+ diverse ethnic groups in attendance, from small children to older adults and everyone in between. They were singing, chanting, and writing the names of the children who had been killed by the products manufactured by Lockheed Martin on t-shirts, cardboard cemetery headstones, crosses, poster boards, and long strips of white material that swayed in the wind as the marchers walked towards the entrance of the manufacturing facility.

As the protesters walked in a procession towards the entrance of the largest manufacturing company of drones and war missiles, to kneel and pray for an end to these unjust wars. They also prayed for Lockheed Martin employees to quit making weapons of mass destruction used for the killing and bombing of communities, nations, schools, hospitals, food banks, churches, children, and families. They stood collectively there to say: human lives are not collateral!

This was a moment of conscience—for corporate leaders, public officials, and all who choose courage over convenience, people over profit, and humanity over fear. To acknowledge, according to Shane Claiborne, founder of the RLCs “that ammunition is designed to wound and to kill when it is purchased and carried by agencies with a record of abuse and inadequate oversight, it doesn’t stay an abstraction. It becomes a real injury, a real funeral, a real child growing up without a parent. And that is not only a policy failure—it is a moral wound.” This is what happens when we answer migration with military logic: weapons instead of welcome or sanctuary, force instead of fairness, and when defense contractors design, build, and profit from this military war infrastructure, off the back of our people, our communities, and our RAZA.

Border policy has become a marketplace for surveillance, control, and economics, and the war on immigrants and immigration is not any different. The villainization and dehumanization are all the same. Causing us to lose sight of the line between security and occupation. Between what is right and fair, and what is wrong and just. It is founded on pure greed, racism, discrimination, biases, patriarchy, and cultural dominance and hegemony. Because safety does not require turning civil spaces into war zones, and justice does not require treating human beings and movement like enemies and an invasion.

It is not right for anyone to ever live, immigrant, citizen, or not, in constant fear and terror! The fear of having law enforcement pull you over on your way to work or to drop off your child at school. This constant “looking over your shoulder fear,” as told to me once by a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient. It isn’t fair for anyone, especially a small child, to have to live in this fear and terror because they or someone in their home is in the U.S. irregularly.

Many Latinx children fear leaving their parents behind to go to school. I have spoken to children who are afraid to even get on the school bus because of their detention center experience, when they were being moved about from one detention center to another without their parents. There is even a fear of going to church or of that late-night and or early-morning knock on the doors by ICE officers with their guns and masks taking you away to a place you do not know, and more likely another detention center in a state miles away from your immediate family.

Therefore, if we keep showing up—peacefully, persistently, and together—every person, regardless of where they were born, may actually, because of these movements, have a life without being hunted, harmed, or disappeared. Because militarism doesn’t stop at the border, it stretches from our ports of entry deep into the fabric of our communities and our souls. From armed checkpoints and surveillance towers at official crossings, to drones, sensors, and militarized policing, all along the northern and southern U.S. borders and within the 100‑mile border zone that extends from the national border into the U.S.

The “100-mile border zone” is where millions of people are constantly living under a state of scrutiny and policing. It includes rural communities and entire cities, like Toledo, Cleveland, Lorain, Detroit, and where I am from, the border town of Laredo, Texas. All the places we have watched Border Patrol and ICE tear holes in communities through raids, detentions, and family separation. Whatever your politics, we should all be able to agree on one moral line: that no one should be brutalized or terrorized for the act of trying to survive. Therefore, on Good Friday of 2026, I chose to use my voice to speak, my ability to write, and my body for those who can’t. I was one of the 20+ who chose on that day to be arrested.

That day I chose what is right and just over what is wrong and just pure greed.
