\"\"The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA)<\/em> and the Lucas County Veterans <\/em>Service Commission<\/em> are proud to announce a partnership that will make it easier for\u00a0those who served our country to reach medical appointments.<\/p>\n

Under TARTA\u2019s pilot fare program, the list of people eligible for a Reduced Fare Card\u00a0<\/em>has been expanded to include both veterans and active-duty military. The Veterans\u00a0<\/em>Service Commission<\/em> will cover the rest of the cost of the fare for those frequently\u00a0traveling to medical appointments, and veterans can pick up a Day Pass or a 31-Day\u00a0pass from the commission.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen considering our new fare system, and in particular how we expanded the\u00a0Reduced Fare Card<\/em> program, we wanted to make it a point to recognize those who\u00a0have sacrificed so much for the freedoms that we enjoy,\u201d said TARTA CEO Laura\u00a0<\/em>Koprowski<\/em>. \u201cA medical appointment for someone who has served this country is the\u00a0very definition of an essential destination, and being able to get our veterans where\u00a0they\u2019re going is why we\u2019re so excited about this partnership.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve both put resources on the table, and partnerships like this one help us remove barriers for those who benefit the most from public transportation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conversations to develop a partnership began early this summer, as TARTA was\u00a0preparing to return to charging fares for the first time in more than 2 years. Both\u00a0TARTA and the Veterans Service Commission expect it to be the first step in a longterm\u00a0collaboration that benefits the many Lucas County residents who have served\u00a0our country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a win-win-win,\u201d said Lucas County Veterans Service Commission Deputy\u00a0Director Jason Brown. \u201cI think it\u2019s a partnership that helps veterans, benefits TARTA\u00a0and benefits the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing able to work out this deal, it provides our veterans not just a one-trip pass, but\u00a0a full day pass they can use, and access to that transportation is going to greatly\u00a0improve their quality of life.\u201d<\/p>\n
