{"id":4674,"date":"2022-10-26T12:54:13","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T12:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/?p=4674"},"modified":"2022-10-26T12:54:13","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T12:54:13","slug":"estrella-awards-celebrating-hispanic-heritage-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/index.php\/2022\/10\/26\/estrella-awards-celebrating-hispanic-heritage-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Estrella Awards: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4675 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_2159-Estrella-Award-300x222.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_2159-Estrella-Award-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_2159-Estrella-Award.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>On October 13, 2022, <em>La Voz de la Comunidad, Inc.<\/em> sponsored a <em>Hispanic Heritage Month<\/em> event in collaboration with <em>Terra State Community College<\/em> at the <em>Doepker Center<\/em> on the campus of the college.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event design was the \u201c<em>Estrella Awards<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Four Fremont Latino Leaders were recognized for their achievement in one of the selected categories of:\u00a0 Education, Business, Government, and\u00a0Community Service.\u00a0 Each Honoree received an Award Plaque and attended the Mexican Buffet luncheon that was provided in the Atrium.<\/p>\n<p>The program began with some opening remarks from City of Fremont, Mayor Daniel Sanchez.<\/p>\n<p>The Estrella Award Honorees are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Education \u2013 Dr. Jos\u00e9 Salinas, Director of Ohio Migrant Education Center<\/li>\n<li>Government \u2013 Angie Ruiz, City Council Member of the Third Ward for the City of Fremont<\/li>\n<li>Business- Alejandro Minor, Minor Collision<\/li>\n<li>Community Service \u2013 Alma Gutierrez, Outreach Specialist, Ohio Department Jobs and Family Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Honorees were acknowledged for their commitment to community excellence and demonstrating Exemplary leadership skills in serving our Fremont community in their individual capacity.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4676 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_5141-Estrella-Award-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_5141-Estrella-Award-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/laprensanewspaper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_5141-Estrella-Award.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Alma Gutierrez<\/strong> has served for 32 years as Outreach Specialist identifying and securing job placements\u00a0for migrant agricultural workers.\u00a0 She also worked tirelessly in seeking resources for the families to secure their employment. She has donated countless amounts of items for families for Migrant Farmworker Appreciation Day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Jos<\/strong><strong>\u00e9 Salinas<\/strong> has served for 22 years as Director of OMEC overseeing the interstate migrant education services of eligible migratory children through the process of identification, recruitment and supportive services.<\/p>\n<p>Also, providing technical assistance to Ohio School districts that receive Title 1-Part C migrant education funding.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Salinas received another Award &#8211;<strong>Innovative Servant Leader Global Influence<\/strong>, by the Faculty at\u00a0Bowling Green State University at the 25<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Doctoral Leadership Studies Program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Angie Ruiz- <\/strong>Council Member Ruiz has served for 10 years for the City of Fremont. She also owns an\u00a0Independent Business as Interpreter and Notary Public services.\u00a0 She is an active member of TMACOG\u00a0Serving as Executive Board member and Water Quality Council. She is also a member of many community Boards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alejandro Minor- <\/strong>Owner of Minor\u2019s Collision, providing automotive services of restoration, detailing, and custom painting. He has owned his business for 12 years and located at 418 Knapp St. in Fremont.<\/p>\n<p>He has mentored Fremont youth, and contributes to local events, such as the Cinco de Mayo Festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lydia Alejandro<\/strong>, Director of La Voz de la Comunidad, Inc. was the lead organizer of the event with Terra College\u00a0staff of Dr. Cory Stine, Johanna Mackey, Melissa Ramirez and Victoria Black.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary Alice Espiritu,<\/strong> Fremont School Board member assisted with the event and Co-Facilitated with the Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Lydia Alejandro voluntary has assisted with Hispanic Heritage Month events for 10 years at Terra State Community College.\u00a0 This year\u2019s program for the college students was to highlight the diversity of strong leadership in the\u00a0City of Fremont.<\/p>\n<p>Contact:\u00a0 Lydia Alejandro, Phone: 419-552-1542 and Email: lyd12alejandro@yahoo.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On October 13, 2022, La Voz de la Comunidad, Inc. sponsored a Hispanic Heritage Month event in collaboration with Terra State Community College at the Doepker Center on the campus of the college.
