\"\"TOLEDO, August 26, 2023:\u00a0 Toledo GROWs<\/em> dedicated a mural in memory of Horace Huse<\/em>, longtime volunteer beekeeper. Apprentices with The Arts Commission\u2019s Young Artists at Work program created and painted the mural at Toledo GROWs\u2019 urban farm,\u00a0900 Oneida Street, Toledo, as a way to remember the beloved Horace.<\/p>\n

Horace Huse, a retired pastor and hospital chaplain, served as volunteer beekeeper at Toledo GROWs from 2010 until 2022. He learned about beekeeping growing up in California and tended bees at various times throughout his life. Horace was a mentor to many budding beekeepers, including the two who succeed him in the role at Toledo GROWs. Horace passed away in October 2022 at the age of 94.<\/p>\n

Toledo GROWs partnered with the Young Artists at Work Program<\/em> this summer to create a mural that serves as a tribute to Horace\u2019s life and the role he played in educating others about the importance of honeybees and other pollinators. Many of the apprentice artists who worked throughout the month of July to complete the mural will be present at the dedication to discuss their work.<\/p>\n

\u201cHorace will long be remembered by many in this community as a man of deep faith, an advocate for social justice, and a champion of environmental issues,\u201d said Yvonne Dubielak<\/em>, Executive Director of Toledo GROWs. \u201cThis mural will serve as a reminder of Horace and his work, as well as provide an opportunity for all of us at Toledo GROWs to continue to tell his story.\u201d<\/p>\n
