It includes photographs, posters, art, memorabilia, and more than 70 film clips showcasing cinematic history.<em>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898-1971<\/em>\u00a0will open at the DIA on February 4, 2024 and continue through June 23, 2024.\u00a0 The exhibit spans nine gallery spaces spotlighting the evolution of Black depictions from nuanced secondary roles to mainstream showcases.<\/p>\n<p><em>Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898-1971<\/em>\u00a0was originally organized by the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and this activation will include a film series in partnership with the Detroit Film Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>The Detroit Film Theatre series included films like\u00a0<em>Within Our Gates<\/em>\u00a0(1920),\u00a0<em>The Flying Ace<\/em>\u00a0(1926),\u00a0<em>Harlem on the Prairie<\/em>\u00a0(1937), and\u00a0<em>Eleven P.M.<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>For more info, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dia.org\/\">dia.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DETROIT, January 19, 2024:\u00a0\u2018Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898-1971\u2019\u00a0salutes the legacy of African-American films, stars, and the role of film in the Civil Rights movement.
