The campaign received more than 25 scholarship applications.<\/p>\n<p><em>Aliana Garza<\/em> is a senior at <em>Central Catholic High School<\/em> and plans to pursue a nursing degree at the <em>University of Toledo<\/em>. She hopes to one day become a travel nurse. \u201cMy aunt is a great role model to me. I\u2019m very close to her and she was a travel nurse,\u201d said Ms. Garza. \u201cShe has shared all her experiences with me, so that helped me realize that was my calling and what I want to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aliana would like to work in Hawaii and elsewhere to \u201csee new places and meet new people.\u201d She stated the scholarship \u201cfeels really great that the community is giving me this opportunity and chance to help me with my future and help my dreams happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Caiden Guzm\u00e1n<\/em> returned from the <em>University of Dayton<\/em> to receive his second Guerrero scholarship alongside his parents. He is finishing up his bachelor\u2019s degree in mechanical engineering and stated the $1,000 award will go toward his pursuit of a master\u2019s degree in aerospace engineering. With the help of scholarships, Guzm\u00e1n predicted he\u2019ll be able to get both degrees with the same amount of student loans he would with a bachelor\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey just help a tremendous amount. They allow me to pursue opportunities that I wouldn\u2019t otherwise be able to afford,\u201d Guzm\u00e1n said. \u201cScholarships like this allow me to pursue other outlets on campus like vice president of the <em>Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guzm\u00e1n also has had some of his student research published in professional journals. He hopes to work someday in the space industry, specifically \u201cspace exploration or the commercialization of space.\u201d He mentioned SpaceX, NASA, Boeing or Virgin as possible career stops in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watch every single one of those, every rocket launch I\u2019ll watch them live,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re just incredibly fascinating to me and I enjoy all that sort of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A brother and sister each received a scholarship. <em>Jes\u00fas Emiliano Alvarado<\/em> and his younger sister <em>Esella Elena Alvardo<\/em>, both students at <em>Bowsher High School<\/em>, plan to continue their studies at the <em>University of Toledo<\/em>. Jes\u00fas intends to become an EMT\/paramedic with the eventual goal of becoming a firefighter. Esella faces the daunting goal of 14 more years of medical education on the way to becoming a surgeon.<\/p>\n<p>Other scholarship recipients included: <em>Giselle Maldonado, Jacqueline Ponce, Manuel Soto, Yareni Vel\u00e1squez Garc\u00eda, Careem Beauford, and Airianna McNeal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Guerrero Memorial scholarship campaign<\/em> was established in honor of <em>Sebastian Guerrero III and Robert Guerrero<\/em>, both veterans of the US Air Force. <em>Melinda S\u00e1nchez<\/em>, a member of the Guerrero family, founded the campaign to support the educational aspirations of future generations. Students are awarded scholarships based on their academic achievement, community involvement, and dedication to future goals. Students write an essay to make their case.
