Authors, book dealers, artists, poets, and bookaholics all gathered this past weekend to support, shop, and get inspired @ the Detroit (MI) Festival of Books held at the Eastern Market on Sunday, July 20, 2025. There was music, crafts, food trucks, authors signing books, and MANY Latinx authors in attendance with their new and inspiring books. Author Lorena Salazar and the illustrator of “Everyone Has Boogers,” Volume 1 of Todos Tenemos Mocos Series (2025, Independent Publisher) were there (see photo below). As well as Francis Vallejo (in photo below), a native of Detroit, and a Mexican-American artist whose works have been exhibited in major national museums and publications. Vallejo has been a recipient of the Boston Globe Horn Book Award for Best Picture Book. His illustrated book “Anansi Boys,” written by Neil Gaiman and published by The Folio Society, has won Spectrum Gold, the D&AD Pencil, and other awards. Vallejo is currently completing a book that documents his time with the US Fish and Wildlife Society and Audubon at the Canning River Bird Camp on the Northern Arctic Coast of Alaska. Festival del Libro de Detroit (MI) en el Mercado Oriental

Autores, libreros, artistas, poetas, y amantes de la lectura se reunieron el fin de semana pasado para apoyar, comprar, e inspirarse en el Festival del Libro de Detroit (MI), celebrado en el Mercado Oriental el domingo 20 de julio de 2025. Hubo música, artesanías, food trucks, autores firmando libros, y MUCHOS autores latinos asistieron con sus nuevos e inspiradores libros. Estuvieron presentes la autora Lorena Salazar y el ilustrador de “Everyone Has Boogers,” Volumen 1 de la serie Todos Tenemos Mocos (2025, Independent Publisher) (ver foto abajo). También estuvo presente Francis Vallejo (en la foto abajo), artista mexicoamericano de Detroit. Vallejo han exhibido en importantes museos y publicaciones nacionales. Vallejo recibió el Premio, Mejor Libro Ilustrado, por el Horn del Boston Globe. Su libro ilustrado “Anansi Boys,” escrito por Neil Gaiman y publicado por El Folio Society, ha ganado el Spectrum Gold, el D&AD Pencil, y otros premios. Vallejo está terminando un libro que documenta su tiempo con la Sociedad de Pesca y Vida Silvestre de EE. UU. y Audubon en el Campamento de Aves del Río Canning, en la costa ártica norte de Alaska.
