December 1, 2025: The City of Detroit is operating a 24-hour hotline for housing crises and emergency shelter at 866-313-2520.
If you are sleeping outside or in your car and need shelter right away, there are two options that can help you find a safe place to sleep for the night:
- Call 866-313-2520 to be connected with a Street Outreach team, Motor City Mitten Mission
- Go to the nearest police station
During weekdays before 6pm, you can also contact CAM Detroit at 313-305-0311 (or visit camdetroit.org) for assistance in finding warming centers in Detroit with sleeping accommodations, meals, showers, and housing assistance.
If the temperature drops below 20F and in other emergency cold situations, the City may declare a Code Blue. In a Code Blue, all overnight warming centers and shelters can be accessed at any time by walking in, no referral needed.
In addition to overnight warming centers and shelters, all Detroit Public Library branches and Detroit Recreation Centers are available to warm up in during regular operating hours. For addresses, hours, and contact information for all locations, please view the Warming Centers, Shelters and Respite Locations map at https://detroitpubliclibrary.org/overnight-warming-centers-respite-locations .
