Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico- This month’s Artisan Fair on Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico, Paseo de la Trigueña, in the Centro neighborhood, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., was held on Friday, April 17, 2026, and featured more than 25 local artists, who had their creations for sale.
La Prensa, Inc.’s editor, Dr. Linda Alvarado-Arce was there to enjoy it and met with the Mayor, La presidenta municipal de Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde. Isla Mujeres, the “Island of Women,” is where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea. It is about 8.1 miles away from the Yucatan Peninsula, where the State of Quintana Roo, and the city of Cancun, Mexico, are located. It is 4.3 miles long and 2,130 feet wide. The south side of the island, Punta Sur, is elevated, rocky, beautiful, and calm. Calm, meaning that it has large homes and family resorts that are not clustered together. The center of the island has a protected bay with beautiful wildlife. While the north end of the island, where Playa Norte is located, is where all the hype is. It is also closest to the ferry that you can take to get to the island if coming from the Cancun airport.
At Playa Norte, you can snorkel for free, eat on the beach or inside a restaurant, get a massage, have your hair braided, visit vendors, or just socialize with all the people all up and down the sandy beaches, and who are enjoying the water that at its deepest can get to your waist if you are around 5 feet like I am. If you are adventurous, you can pay to snorkel or scuba, or for a glass-bottom boat excursion, and visit the underwater museum of art, El Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA), which features sculptures, like a Volkswagen (VW) Beetle Bug, submerged to create artificial reefs to replace the coral reefs that are disappearing due to global warming and natural disasters. The sculptures were made by the artist Jason deCaires Taylor of Britain. Right now, the island has a cool, breezy day and is awaiting huge turtles that are currently swimming through the crystal clear, beautiful blue water and getting ready to lay their eggs near the “North” beach.

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, México – La Feria de Artesanos del mes en Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, México, Paseo de la Trigueña, en el barrio Centro, de 16:00 a 22:00, se celebró el viernes 17 de abril de 2026 y contó con la participación de más de 25 artistas locales, cuyas creaciones estaban a la venta.
La editora de La Prensa, Inc., la Dra. Linda Alvarado-Arce, estuvo allí para disfrutarlo y se reunió con la alcaldesa, la presidenta municipal de Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde. Isla Mujeres, la “Isla de las Mujeres”, es donde el Golfo de México se une con el mar Caribe. Está a unas 8,1 millas de la península de Yucatán, donde se encuentran el estado de Quintana Roo y la ciudad de Cancún, México. Mide 4,3 millas de largo y 2.130 pies de ancho. El lado sur de la isla, Punta Sur, es elevado, rocoso, hermoso y tranquilo. Tranquilo, lo que significa que tiene grandes casas y complejos familiares que no están agrupados. El centro de la isla cuenta con una bahía protegida con una fauna preciosa. Mientras que el extremo norte de la isla, donde se encuentra Playa Norte, es donde está toda la fiesta. También está más cerca del ferry que puedes tomar para llegar a la isla si vienes desde el aeropuerto de Cancún.
En Playa Norte puedes hacer snorkel gratis, comer en la playa o dentro de un restaurante, recibir un masaje, trenzarte el pelo, visitar vendedores o simplemente socializar con toda la gente de las playas de arena y que disfruta del agua que, en su mayor profundidad, puede llegar hasta la cintura si mides alrededor de 1,50 metros como yo. Si eres aventurero, puedes pagar para hacer esnórquel o bucear, o por una excursión en barco con fondo de cristal, y visitar el museo submarino de arte, El Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA), que presenta esculturas, como un Volkswagen (VW) Beetle Bug, sumergidas para crear arrecifes artificiales que sustituyan los arrecifes de coral que están desapareciendo debido al calentamiento global y los desastres naturales. Las esculturas fueron realizadas por el artista Jason deCaires Taylor de Gran Bretaña. Ahora mismo, la isla tiene un día fresco y ventoso y espera a las enormes tortugas que nadan por el agua cristalina, hermosa, y azul, preparándose para poner sus huevos cerca de la playa “Norte.”
