June 25, 2024: The Toledo Board of Education invited family and friends to attend a recognition ceremony in honor of Richard “Rico” Neller  for his contributions to the Latino community. Rico has left a lasting legacy through his work in education, journalism, and cultural preservation. Richard taught at Toledo Public Schools while attending Law School at the University of Toledo, and went on to become a well-respected defense attorney. Rico’s love of journalism and the Latino culture eventually led him to start La Prensa Newspaper. As a big advocate for education, Rico worked closely with local organizations and the Toledo Mud Hens to create the annual Latino Scholarship Day at Fifth Third Field to provide scholarships for Latino students. TPS has pledged to create a scholarship in Rico’s honor.  This year’s Latino Scholarship Day will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
