Todd Mesek

CLEVELAND, September 15, 2022: The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) announced the appointment of Todd Mesek to the newly created position of Chief Marketing Officer. Mesek will be responsible for the creation and implementation of integrated marketing and communications strategies to position the museum for success and to grow museum audiences on-site and online.

“After an extensive search, I’m pleased to welcome Todd to our leadership team,” said William M. Griswold, CMA Director and President. “An active member of the arts community, Todd is committed to cultivating and celebrating Cleveland’s fine institutions, artists, professionals and a culture that is uniquely ours. As we continue to enhance the visitor experience at the CMA, we will lean on Todd and his proven track record of connecting with audiences in authentic ways.”

Since 2018, Mesek has served as Chief Marketing Officer at Ideastream Public Media, where he led marketing, communications, brand building and development for the organization. In his time with Ideastream, Mesek developed and launched the new Ideastream Public Media Brand, managed communications around Ideastream’s operation of WKSU, and generated the highest levels of individual support in the organization’s history.

Prior to this role, he served as Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where he was responsible for marketing communications, media partnerships, sponsorships and sales. Mesek led audience development and rebranding for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which resulted in 12% compounded annual growth in attendance from 2014 to 2017.

He was also responsible for marketing, communications and media partnerships for the annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and was part of the team that brought the ceremonies back to Cleveland. Before he joined the Rock Hall, Mesek worked in leadership positions with Wyse Advertising and other marketing communications agencies, where he managed marketing campaigns for brands including American Greetings, Applebee’s Restaurants, BP, General Electric, Kelly Services, and others.

“I’m incredibly honored to join the world-class team at the Cleveland Museum of Art,” Mesek said. “The museum is such an important culturaldestination for people around the world and I am looking forward to connecting with audiences in ways that honor the CMA’s rich tradition and history and welcome new audiences in.”

Mesek, a graduate of Kent State University, serves on the Boards of Directors for the Cleveland Arts Prize, the Cleveland International Film Festival, and the Kent State University School of Media & Journalism Professional Advisory Board. He will begin his new responsibilities at the Cleveland Museum of Art on Monday, October 10, 2022.
