Willard, oh: Robert De Hoyos, age 75 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, October 22, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Robstown, Texas on September 12, 1948. He moved to Ohio with his parents, Petra and Manuel Sr. De Hoyos. Robert was 16 years old when he came from Texas to Shelby, Ohio. He graduated from Shelby High School. He went to North Central State College in 1976.
Robert served in the United States Army from 1969 to August 1970. He was in the second and third infantry. He served as a Military Police in the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). At that time, he was exposed to Agent Orange.
After his military service, Robert went to work at Hedstrom in Ashland, Ohio for many years. He was also hired for a position by Timkin in Bucyrus. Timkin liked him so much, he was employed there for 9 years. He worked in 16 different departments during his time at Timkin.
Robert was raised by his parents Petra and Manuel Sr, both preceded him in death, in Robstown Texas. He and his family came to Willard, Ohio to seek employment. He met his late wife Rebecca, and they were married in May of 1982. They were married for nearly 30 years until she passed in March of 2012.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Raul, Esteban Sr. (Maria); sisters Thana (Baldomera) Silva and Lola (Arnulfo) Alonzo, nieces Diana and Carmalita, and many special cousins. Also preceding him in death his wife’s parents, John and Herma Robinson, and bother-in-laws, Roger, Bill, Larry, and James Robinson, Dick Sanderson and John Shiffer.
He is survived by nieces Diane De Hoyos, RoseMary De Hoyos-González, Veronica García, and Anunfo (Joyce) Alonzo. Also surviving are his wife’s siblings, Hank, Doug, Jerry and John Robinson, Susie Sanderson, Peggy Schiffer and Carma Zacharias, a special nurse’s aide, Callie Looney and special nieces Heather, Katie, Sarah, and Hannah, special nephews Kevin and Gabe as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Robert will be greatly missed by his large extended family and friends. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family wishes for donations to be made to the Salvation Army of Huron County or Toys for Tots.
