TOLEDO, Dec. 29, 2023: Julie Gibbons was sworn in at Toledo Council Chambers, One Government Center. She is the first female Toledo City Clerk, since 1837, replacing longtime Clerk Gerald Dendinger. Ms. Gibbons has served Council since 1998, serving as Assistant Clerk to Mr. Dendinger since 2006 and was unanimously voted by Council to succeed Mr. Dendinger in November
The City Clerk serves at the pleasure of the Council. According to the City Charter, the Clerk shall attend the Council as its secretary, shall keep its records, and make an annual report giving a summary of its proceedings, and shall perform such other duties as are given him or her by this Charter or which may be prescribed by ordinance.
“Julie and I have worked side-by-side since 1998 and will serve our City and the Council Members well as the new Clerk of Council,” Mr. Dendinger stated.
“I am honored to be given this opportunity to continue Jerry Dendinger’s legacy of exceptional public service in the Clerk’s office and excited to use my new role to keep the Clerk’s office moving forward,” said Ms. Gibbons.
