TOLEDO, March, 2024: The Board of Lucas County Commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Thomas Blomquist as Acting Coroner of Lucas County, effective at 4:30 p.m. on March 31, 2024, when Lucas County Coroner Dr. Diane Scala-Barnett is set to retire.
At that time, Dr. Blomquist will assume the position of Acting Coroner and will perform the duties thereof until the officer appointed by the Lucas County Democratic Central Committee qualifies and takes the office.
Dr. Blomquist took the oath of office at the Board of Lucas County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, the Board’s last meeting of the month. The oath was administered by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Lindsay Navarre.
The Commissioners also honored outgoing Coroner Dr. Barnett with a proclamation recognizing her 38-year career in the Lucas County Coroner’s Office. She is the first woman to hold the office.
