The library extends The Archive through August and announces Sunday hours

CLEVELAND, OH, May 22, 2024: Cleveland Public Library is excited to announce the extension of The Archive, an immersive floral exhibit through Aug. 3. Due to its popularity, Main Library’s Brett Hall will temporarily open its doors to the public on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. from June 2 through July 28, 2024, allowing visitors to experience the exhibit seven days a week.

“Since The Archive’s debut, the exhibit has attracted more than 85,000 visitors to Cleveland Public Library,” said Felton Thomas Jr., Executive Director and CEO at Cleveland Public Library. “Due to an overwhelming demand, we decided to extend the exhibit and add additional hours so that our community can continue to enjoy this breathtaking artwork this summer.”

While the exhibit in Brett Hall will be open on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m., no other library services will be available during that time. Patrons are invited to take a free book upon their departure from The Archive exhibit.

“The Archive is a reminder of the Library’s role as a guardian of knowledge and a portal to limitless imagination,” said Tiffany Graham Charkosky, Director of Arts and Culture at Cleveland Public Library. “It encourages visitors to explore the delicate interplay between words and nature.”

The Archive, which consists of over 500,000 preserved flowers suspended from Douglas Fir beams, was created by world-renowned artist, Rebecca Louise Law. The exhibit is funded by the Lockwood Thompson Fund, which allows the Library to showcase innovative and thought-provoking temporary works of art that complement its broad range of cultural programming.

Rebecca Louise Law will return to Cleveland on July 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to guide visitors in an art-making event at the the Library’s ArtBox located in AsiaTown’s Pop-up Park at 3236 Payne Avenue. On July 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Cleveland Public Library will screen Shape Cleveland’s The Archive, a short documentary on the creation of this exhibit, followed by an artist talk and reception featuring Law. Additional details will be released next month.

Cleveland Public Library’s Brett Hall will be partially open from Aug. 5 through Aug. 19 to allow public viewing of the dismantling of The Archive. In September, Cleveland Public Library will debut a new art installation.
