It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved husband, father and grandfather Benito (Benny) Jose Martinez, 78, has passed away. He died peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at UTMC surrounded by his loving family after a year long battle with cancer.
Benny was born on March 21,1946 in Sugar Land, Texas to Santos Martinez Sr. and Guadalupe (Melchor) DeLaCerda. He graduated from Hamler High School in 1965. After graduation Benny was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Germany. When he returned home he worked as a meat cutter for many years. He met and married the love of his life Alicia Estella Volpe on December 6, 1969. He began his career in sales in 1980 and then started his own business Benny Martinez Executive Search in March of 1990 and continued to work until this past December. Benny enjoyed golfing with his grandsons, watching sports, taking his dog Bitsy to the park and spending time with his family.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Judy Martinez and Pauline Gann.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia; daughter Amy (James Richards); grandsons, Matthew (Jessica) Wingard and Ethan Seiler; brothers, Eliseo Martinez, Santos (Gloria) Martinez Jr and Frankie (Rachel) Martinez; sisters, Feliz Rodeheaver, Porfiria Leal and Maria Martinez as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Benny’s family will receive guests from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 11:00 am. at the funeral home followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery, Maumee.
The family would also like to send a special thank you to the ICU nurses at UTMC, Mitch and Jarrett for their kindness and compassion during Benny’s last days.
