Ninety-five (95) year-old Dolores Huerta was at the University of Michigan (UM) on March 31, 2025, to celebrate Cesar Chávez’s birthday and their Day of Service and Learning. This event was an intergenerational “platica” (talk) with community members, college students, UM administration, and busloads of students who were able to ask her questions from Cristo Rey, the Academy of the Americas, and the Cesar Chavez Academy, all from SW Detroit, Michigan.
Dolores spoke on the importance of knowing our Latinx history and remembering it. She encouraged the audience to “fight back economically, to boycott, march, protest, and to VOTE!” She said that whatever we do, we must always “make the time” to do what is right and she had the audience chanting “Si Se Pudo” (Yes, we Did!), “Si Se Puede” (Yes, We Can!) y (and) “Si Se Podrá!” (Yes, We Will) in the Rackham Auditorium.
Dolores Huerta is co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), which was originally founded under the name of the United Farm Workers Union with Cesar Chavez in 1962. She is a civil rights activist and community organizer, who has worked in this field for over 50 years. She is also the founder of her own foundation, the Dolores Huerta Foundation, which she started after receiving the Puffin/Nation $100,000 prize for Creative Citizenship. The Dolores Huerta 
Foundation is a community-based organizing foundation that focuses on educational reform, improving low-income community infrastructures, and that advocates for LGBT communities.
Dolores Huerta estuvo en la Universidad de Michigan Celebrando el cumpleaños de César Chávez

Dolores Huerta, de 95 años, estuvo en la Universidad de Michigan (UM) el 31 de marzo de 2025 para celebrar el cumpleaños de César Chávez y su Día de Servicio y Aprendizaje. Este evento fue una “plática” intergeneracional con miembros de la comunidad, estudiantes universitarios, la administración de UM, y autobuses llenos de estudiantes desde Cristo Rey, la Academia de las Américas, y la Academia César Chávez del suroeste de Detroit, Michigan, que pudieron hacerle preguntas.
Dolores habló sobre la importancia de conocer nuestra historia latina y recordarla. Animó al público a “luchar económicamente, a boicotear, marchar, protestar y ¡a VOTAR!” Dijo que, siempre debemos “reservar tiempo” para hacer lo correcto e hizo que el público coreara “Sí se pudo,” “Sí se puede,” y “¡Sí se podrá!” en el Auditorio Rackham.
Dolores Huerta es cofundadora del United Farm Workers (UFW), fundado originalmente bajo el nombre del United Farm Workers Union junto con César Chávez en 1962. Es activista por los derechos civiles y organizadora comunitaria, con más de 50 años de experiencia en este campo.
