Southwest Detroit’s 60th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Southwest Detroit, Michigan, held its 60th annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta this past weekend at Patton Park Recreation, with a parade on May 4, 2025, that went from Woodmere Street to Vernor Highway and concluded at Clark Park. It had music all up and down the streets, Mariachi México 2022, Tiffany González, Compás Music Group, Beto y Los Guyz, the Ballet Folklórico El Orgullo de México, Wayne State University Ballet Folklórico, Motor City Street Dance Academy, the Southwest Championship Wrestling team, food trucks, and lots of vendors.
Destiny Perez was there with her family and said it was very well attended despite the “rain, sleet, and snow, they were still going to have it!” She said she saw people dancing near their trucks, floats going by, and that everyone was having a good time.” Despite all the fear the media and people have been placing on attending or drawing attention to large groups of Latinxs, Destiny said that it “didn’t seem to bother the people in Southwest Detroit, they still came out and had a great time.”
60th Anual Fiesta del Cinco de Mayo en el Suroeste de Detroit

El suroeste de Detroit, Michigan, celebró su 60th Anual Fiesta del Cinco de Mayo el fin de semana pasado en el Parque Recreativo Patton. El desfile se realizó el 4 de mayo de 2025, desde la calle Woodmere hasta la autopista Vernor y concluyó en el Parque Clark con música por todas las calles: Mariachi México 2022, Tiffany González, Compás Music Group, Beto y Los Guyz, el Ballet Folklórico El Orgullo de México, el Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad Estatal de Wayne, la Academia de Danza Callejera Motor City, el equipo de lucha libre del Campeonato del Suroeste, camiones de comida y muchos vendedores.
Destiny Pérez estuvo allí con su familia y comentó que hubo muy buena asistencia a pesar de la “lluvia, la aguanieve, y la nieve, ¡igual iban a celebrar!” Comentó que vio gente bailando cerca de sus camiones, carrozas pasando, y que todos la estaban pasando bien. A pesar de todo el miedo que los medios y la gente han estado poniendo sobre asistir o llamar la atención sobre grandes grupos de latinos, Destiny dijo que “no pareció molestar a la gente del suroeste de Detroit, aun así salieron y se lo pasaron bien.”
