The Coalition for Hispanic/Issues & Progress (CHIP) held its 26th Hispanic Leadership Conference/Gala on Saturday, May 24, 2025. And this event was spectacular, not just because of the wonderful sessions they had during the day on topics such as Lorain County’s Sheriff’s department’s role in regard to immigrants and immigration directives from the federal government by Sheriff Jack Hall. It also had sessions on Artificial Intelligence (AI), social determents and community resources as they relate to Latinxs. They had a session on how the Ohio legislature works, chair yoga, and a panel that I sat on that discussed defamation, opinions, and free speech. This conference also offered topics and options for Latinx youth, our future Latinx leaders.
After a day of learning, lunch, and bonding with other Latinxs, the conference held at Lorain County Community College (LCCC) moved the festivities to the Emerald Event Center @ the Residence Inn by Marriot (33040 Just Imagine Dr.) in Avon, Ohio. There we had a wonderful dinner, lots of laughs with the Latinx comedian Dennis Gaxiola, and danced the night away with the Latinx band, Son Gitano and DJ Abner “Gozadera” Santiago. AND more importantly and beautifully done was a tribute to La Prensa founder Richard “Rico” Neller (PRESENTE!), although deceased, with a huge, framed, picture, a video of his life in journalism, and CHIP acknowledged and thanked La Prensa, LLC for all he had done, and that we continue to do for the Latinx community in Lorain, Ohio.
According to the organizers, “For 26 years, this conference has been a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with purpose and passion. This year’s gathering proved once again that when we invest in each other, support emerging leaders, and celebrate our rich heritage while building toward an even brighter future, there’s nothing we cannot accomplish.” ¡Juntos somos más fuertes! – Together, we are stronger!

El Coalition for Hispanic/Issues & Progress (CHIP) celebró su 26.ª Conferencia/Gala de Liderazgo Hispano el sábado 24 de mayo de 2025. Este evento fue espectacular, no solo por las maravillosas sesiones que se llevaron a cabo durante el día sobre temas como del Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Lorain con respecto a los inmigrantes y las directivas de inmigración del gobierno federal por el Sheriff Jack Hall. También incluyó sesiones sobre Inteligencia Artificial (IA), recursos comunitarios y social para la comunidad latina. También se ofreció una sesión sobre el funcionamiento de la legislatura de Ohio, yoga en silla, y un panel en el que participé que fue de la difamación, las opiniones, y la libertad de expresión. Esta conferencia también ofreció temas y opciones para la juventud latina, nuestros futuros líderes latinas. Tras un día de aprendizaje, almuerzo, y hablando con otros Latinxs, la conferencia celebrada en el Lorain County Community College (LCCC) trasladó las festividades al Emerald Event Center del Residence Inn by Marriott (33040 Just Imagine Dr.) en Avon, Ohio. Allí disfrutamos de una cena maravillosa, nos reímos mucho con el comediante Latinx Dennis Gaxiola, y bailamos toda la noche con la banda Latinx, Son Gitano, y el DJ Abner “Gozadera” Santiago. Y, lo más importante y hermoso, se rindió un homenaje al fundador de La Prensa, Richard “Rico” Neller (¡PRESENTE!), aunque fallecido, con una enorme foto y un video de su trayectoria periodística. CHIP reconoció y agradeció a La Prensa, LLC por todo lo que hizo y por lo que seguimos haciendo por la comunidad Latinx de Lorain, Ohio.
