Toledo, OH — The NAACP Toledo Branch will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Sunday, January 19, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 1501 N. Cove Blvd., Toledo.
This commemorative event will bring together community members, faith leaders, elected officials, youth, and advocates to honor the life, legacy, and enduring impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through reflection, inspiration, and a renewed call to action.
The featured speaker for the celebration will be Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, National NAACP Board Member and President of the Detroit Branch of the NAACP. Dr. Anthony is a respected civil rights leader and a long-time advocate for social justice, equity, and civic engagement.
“This celebration is not only about remembering Dr. King’s dream, but recommitting ourselves to the work,” said Darlene Sweeney-Newbern, President of the NAACP Toledo Chapter. “Dr. King challenged us to confront injustice wherever it exists, and this event serves as a reminder
that the fight for civil rights, voting rights, and economic justice continues.”
The event is FREE and open to the public, and all members of the community are encouraged to attend.
