LOS ANGELES, CA, JULY 10, 2026: Putnam & Smith Publishing Company is pleased to present a new art book series dedicated to the works of Mathias Goeritz, a renowned Mexican sculptor and artist.
The Mathias Goeritz three-volume Art Book Series was released at the International Guadalajara Book Festival and featured at the LA Times Festival of Books in April. Award-winning architect Javier Senosiain, compiled this comprehensive collection.
Werner Mathias Goeritz Brunner (1915–1990), born in Gdansk, Poland, was a Mexican painter, sculptor, and visionary thinker of German descent whose work profoundly shaped the artistic and architectural landscape of modern Mexico. Educated at the Humboldt University of Berlin, where he earned a doctorate in Art History, Goeritz also trained in drawing and applied arts under Max Kaus and Hans Orlowski. After immigrating to Mexico in 1949 with his wife, photographer Marianne Gast, he became a central figure in the development of modern art and architecture, pioneering the concept of Emotional Architecture. His creations—ranging from El Eco and Torres de Satélite to La Ruta de la Amistad and El Espacio Escultórico—transcended disciplines, blending sculpture, architecture, and spirituality into a new visual language. Through his monumental works, Goeritz transformed Mexico’s urban landscape into a living gallery, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire reflection on the role of art in public life.
The series, composed of more than 4,700 images, is structured in three volumes:
Volume I: Visual Production and Artistic Work
Volume II: Urban and Monumental Projects
Volume III: Personal Aspects and Human Trajectory of the Artist
Each volume includes essays written by specialists in Goeritz’s work and thought.
