On October 10th, 2024, La Voz de la Comunidad, Inc. in collaboration with Terra State Community College are sponsoring a Hispanic Heritage Month Event at the campus.
The event is called “Estrella Awards” (Our Shining Stars). An event planned to honor four Latino Leaders who have contributed positively to our Fremont City community in the categories of Education, Government, Community Service, and Business. The selected Honorees are as follows:
Government: Antonio Olvera- Senior Police Officer, Fremont City Police Department
Education: Bonnie Arguelles, M.Ed – Fremont City Schools
Business: Felicia Obregon- El Aguila Bakery, Owner
Community Service: Benita Blackburn- Faith-based services Victory Church & Community
Their journey is unique and inspirational in how they arrived in their chosen profession.
During the Awards Ceremony, a narrative about each Honoree will be given that captures their courage and strength in pursuing their professional dream and “paying it forward” by volunteering in several community initiatives. Each Honoree will receive an Awards Plaque in recognition of their contribution as an exceptional community Latino Leader.

Other Hispanic Heritage Month activities on campus began on September 17th organized by the Multicultural Department.
The 2024 theme for National Hispanic Heritage Month: Pioneers of Change: Shaping the future together; Highlights the trailblazers who have led the way for future generations through their innovation, leadership, and unwavering dedication to progress.
Lydia Alejandro, Director of La Voz de la Comunidad, Inc. has been organizing Hispanic Heritage Month activities for 11 years at Terra State Community College in collaboration with their staff.
