Is Venezuela going to become the 51st state before Puerto Rico? You might think so given what has transpired in the last 24 hours. The United States of America attacked Venezuela on Saturday, January 3, 2026, around 2 AM, and removed the sitting President of a sovereign nation and his wife. President Maduro and the First Lady of Venezuela were brought in handcuffs in the middle of the night to New York City (NY) for trial. Prior to this, the current administration had been bombing small boats off the coast of Venezuela, killing more than 100 people, claiming they were transporting drugs. Later, the administration made claims that the bombings were specifically because of the fentanyl Venezuela was producing, when in fact it is not made in Venezuela.
Then, on Saturday, just before noon, the current administration held a press conference and claimed that the USA was going to “run” Venezuela because of its oil. Adding that U.S. businesses that ran operations in Venezuela before would be brought back and reimbursed, as well as funded for future operations. President Trump stated, “We’re going to have our large U.S. oil companies go into Venezuela.” He added that we would also fund the infrastructure in Venezuela for oil. Not one word about drugs being the reason we attacked. We were misled. President Trump said, “We’re going to run the country until such time we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition.” When asked by the press who was going to run the country, he replied, “These people behind me.” The people behind him were Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, Secretary of War (formerly Defense), and General Dan Caine, Joint Chiefs of Staff.
When Secretary of State Rubio was asked if Congress was informed before the attack, he said he informed them afterwards. President Trump stated, “We are going to run Venezuela until a safe transition can take place.” The Constitution of the United States requires an Act of Congress to take place before a declaration of war can take place; a President cannot do this unilaterally. Representative Seth Moulton (D), Armed Services Committee, stated on CNN, after the president spoke, that his committee, which is the “Gang of Eight,” Armed Services Committee, as well as the Intelligence Committee, four from each, had asked the administration if they had planned on attacking Venezuela, or going to war with Venezuela and were told, “no.” Rep. Moulton stated that they were lied to by the administration and his staff.
Even though what the current administration did was unconstitutional, there are many Venezuelans in and out of Venezuela who are happy that President Maduro was removed.
Anna Navarro, a political strategist, stated on ABC News that “Nicolas Maduro was the symbol of dictatorship and had 6 million Venezuelans living in exile.” She criticizes Trump’s methods and how he lied to the American people, saying it was about drugs when it was always about oil, and that there has been oppression for 25 years in Venezuela, beginning with President Chavez, before President Maduro. “The Venezuelans did not vote to be a USA protectorate… and be a farm store”, she added.
This administration’s history with the Latin Community has been appalling. He began his presidential campaigns with demeaning lies about Mexicans raping and murdering, and Haitians in Ohio eating dogs and cats; his administration knowingly continues with unlawful and cruel behavior by ICE, sending immigrants offshore to detention centers with inhumane conditions; and now, an international coup and deaths of uncounted Venezuelans without the required approval of Congress.
Please denounce the continued assault on the Latin Community. The current administration is just using Venezuelans to give his friends in the oil industry billions of dollars under the guise of drug cartels.

¿Se convertirá Venezuela en el estado número 51, antes que Puerto Rico? Podría pensar así, con todo lo que pasó en las últimas 24 horas. Los Estados Unidos de América atacaron Venezuela el sábado 3 de enero de 2026, alrededor de las 2 de la madrugada, y removieron al presidente de una nación soberana y a su esposa. El presidente Maduro y la primera dama de Venezuela fueron llevados esposados en plena noche a la Ciudad de Nueva York (NY) para ser juzgados. Anteriormente, la administración había bombardeado pequeñas embarcaciones frente a la costa de Venezuela, matando a más de 100 personas, alegando que transportaban drogas. Posteriormente, la administración afirmó que los bombardeos se debían específicamente al fentanilo que supuestamente producía Venezuela, cuando en realidad no se produce en ese país.
Luego, el sábado, poco antes del mediodía, la administración ofreció una rueda de prensa y afirmó que los Estados Unidos iba a “controlar” Venezuela debido a su petróleo. Añadió que las empresas estadounidenses que operaban en Venezuela antes serían reinstaladas y compensadas, además de recibir financiación para futuras operaciones. El presidente Trump declaró: “Vamos a hacer que nuestras grandes compañías petroleras estadounidenses entren en Venezuela.” Añadió que también financiarían la infraestructura petrolera en Venezuela. Ni una palabra sobre que las drogas fueran el motivo del ataque. Nos engañaron. El presidente Trump dijo: “Vamos a gobernar el país hasta que podamos realizar una transición segura, adecuada y juiciosa.” Cuando la prensa le preguntó quién iba a gobernar el país, respondió: “Estas personas que están detrás de mí.” Las personas detrás de él eran el secretario del estado, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, el secretario de guerras (anteriormente de defensa) y el general, Dan Caine, el jefe del estado mayor conjunto.
Cuando se le preguntó al secretario de estado, Rubio, si el Congreso había sido informado antes del ataque, dijo que los había informado después. El historial de esta administración con la comunidad latina ha sido terrible. Comenzó sus campañas presidenciales con mentiras denigrantes sobre mexicanos que violaban y asesinaban, y haitianos en Ohio que comían perros y gatos; su administración continúa a sabiendas con el comportamiento ilegal y cruel del ICE, enviando inmigrantes a centros de detención en el extranjero con condiciones inhumanas; y ahora, un golpe de Estado internacional y la muerte de innumerables venezolanos sin la aprobación requerida del Congreso.
Por favor, denuncien el continuo ataque a la comunidad latina. La actual administración solo está utilizando a los venezolanos para dar miles de millones de dólares a sus amigos en la industria petrolera bajo el pretexto de los cárteles de la droga.
