Ypsilanti, Mi, March 7, 2026: BandB Theatre is proud to present: Salomé and Aruaca, a new bilingual musical inspired by a classic Puerto Rican folktale that is part West Side Story, part JLo Rom Com and entirely entertaining.
The musical tells the story of star-crossed lovers, Spaniard Salomé and indigenous Taino Aruaca, who are ready to spend their lives together but her father and his choice of a suitor will do anything to stop them.
Because of some violent subplots, this performance is recommended for mature audiences. Parallel: If you’re comfortable with everything about West Side Story, then Salomé and Aruaca will be suitable. But there is also lots of romance and comedy that’s on par with an early 2000s Jennifer Lopez movie.
The musical stars graduating University of Michigan BFA Musical Theatre student Sofia Maldonado who is excited to do the show before preparing for senior showcase and graduation. The band is led by bassist Andres Soto. Salomé and Aruaca is choreographed by Adilynn Cardenas and written & directed by Emilio Rodriguez.
“Salomé and Aruaca” performs live Friday, March 27, 2026 at 7pm and Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 3pm and 7pm at the Riverside Arts Center in Ypsilanti (76 N Huron St, Ypsilanti, MI 48197).
