The daughter of Puerto Rican migrants, Rosado grew up surrounded by hard work, tight-knit family traditions and an unshakable sense of possibility. That foundation fueled her remarkable ascent: from a young girl captivated by the pages of El Diario-La Prensa — the nation’s oldest Spanish-language newspaper — to becoming its first female editor, and later its publisher and CEO.
“I wanted to recall the love, the brightness, the promise, the unity and the certainty I felt at that moment that a daughter of the Bronx would represent,” Rosado writes in her memoir. “The proof that if one of us makes it, we all do.”

Rossana Rosado is a journalist, author, educator and advocate for justice. Born and raised in the Bronx, she built a distinguished career in journalism spanning more than 30 years across print, radio and television. She made history as the first female editor of El Diario-La Prensa and later served as its publisher and CEO. Her work has earned some of the industry’s highest honors, including an Emmy Award, a STAR Award from the New York Women’s Agenda and a Peabody Award for Journalism.
She holds a journalism degree from Pace University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from John Jay College, where she also served as a Distinguished Lecturer, teaching courses within four New York State prisons.
Rosado currently serves as a commissioner overseeing Criminal Justice Services for New York State. She previously served as Secretary of State of New York.
