Lorain, Ohio, April 19, 2023: United Way of Greater Lorain County invites the public to its signature fundraiser, A Night at the Bee. Presented by Nordson Corporation, A Night at the Bee returns to in-person on Friday, April 28th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Emerald Event Center in Avon.
The event is a fun game night-style competition for adults that includes four categories of Spelling, History, STEM and Art. Four teams in each category will compete for the $1,000 grand prize courtesy of Ross Environmental Services and the champion’s traveling trophy.
Community members can purchase tickets for $45 per person, which includes buffet dinner and one drink ticket, or donate to the event at uwloraincounty.org/thebee2023. All proceeds from the event support United Way’s local education initiatives including community collaboratives focused on kindergarten readiness and middle school success in the Clearview, Elyria, Firelands, Lorain, Midview and Oberlin school districts.
Themed after a night at the races, spectators are actively engaged in the competition through the 50/50 Honey Pot Raffle. Each team in the competition will have a separate container, called a honey pot, used to collect raffle tickets. Spectators then purchase raffle tickets and decide which pot to place their tickets. The pots, and the tickets within them, will be eliminated as their corresponding teams are eliminated from the competition. At the conclusion of the game, one 50/50 raffle ticket will be pulled from the honey pot of the winning team, and the owner of this ticket will win half of the money raised in the raffle.
Other festivities include a diverse silent auction including family entertainment, local breweries and restaurants, and autographed memorabilia from the Browns, Cavaliers and Guardians.
“The Bee is such a fun event that wouldn’t be possible without the loyal support of the teams and the generosity of our community,” said United Way of Greater Lorain County president and CEO Ryan Aroney. “We’re excited to see who emerges victorious and can add their name to the coveted traveling trophy. Most importantly, we’re thrilled that the success of this event will help kids prepare for kindergarten and succeed in middle school and beyond.”
