Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur with TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski

Toledo, June 30, 2023:   Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) joined Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) CEO Laura Koprowski to announce more than $9 Million in funding through the Low or No Emission Vehicle and Grants for Buses & Bus Facilities Programs.

TARTA will use these funds to add eight zero-emission electric buses to its fleet and acquire six new Level 3 electric charging stations. The funding is part of a $29 Million grant from the Federal Transit Administration’s Low-No award to the Ohio Department of Transportation that will be used by TARTA and 9 other county and regional transit authorities across Ohio to upgrade their fleets to low or zero-emission vehicles. This program utilizes funding passed by Congress through the Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“Bringing a zero-emission bus fleet to our region will improve quality of life for Toledoans and our neighbors in the region. It means less noise and exhaust in our communities, more efficient transit operations, and good-paying jobs for our electrical and utility workers. TARTA’s initiative benefits our entire nation, transitioning to zero-emission transit fleets helps us meet clean air goals and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources,” said Congresswoman Kaptur. “This funding and the improvements it will enable are a tremendous step in the right direction. It is rewarding when the work we do in Washington brings rewards back home. I will continue to support federal investments such as this one and ensure that our NW Ohio communities compete for the resources needed to move us forward in the new energy economy.”

“TARTA thanks Congresswoman Kaptur, Senator Brown, and the Federal Transit Administration for supporting our plans to modernize our fleet and invest in our workforce,” said TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski. “The addition of 8 electric buses and 6 electric chargers is a game-changer for TARTA and the customers who depend on us to reach essential destinations every day. Transitioning the fleet to zero emissions vehicles is a big part of our plan for the future and we are eager to get started.”
