Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Cleveland Public Library. The month honoring the culture takes place from September 15 – October 15. Our family fun programs will focus on the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans.

Events include:

  • Hispanic Heritage Month Kick Off Celebration: Enjoy the sights, sounds, and traditions of Cleveland’s Hispanic heritage, including live music, storytime with CPL’s artist in resident, Dr Raquel Ortiz, and Puerto Rican cuisine at the South Branchon Friday, September 15 at 6 p.m.
  • ¡Buscar la Bandera! Find the Flag!Join us for a Hispanic Heritage Month themed scavenger hunt on Thursday, September 15 at Main Library. Practice identifying the flags of various Hispanic Heritage countries, find them, and receive a prize.
  • Bilingual Buddies: Bring a buddy or make new friends to learn some Spanish vocabulary by creating your own bilingual bookmarks. Draw inspiration from bilingual picture and board books featuring Latinx authors and illustrators.
  • Teen Fall Film Series: View “Almost a Woman,” based on the autobiographical story of Esmeralda “Negi” Santiago. The film follows the young “Negi” as she struggles to adjust to life in NYC after moving from her native Puerto Rico.
  • Celebrations: Continue the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at our Fulton, Memorial-Nottingham and South Brooklyn branches on September 19 and 21.
  • Cultural Crafternoons:  Families can create Paper Fiesta FlowersCastenetsand other Hispanic Heritage crafts at select neighborhood branches.
