March 12, 2024: The Latino Youth Education Summit is an annual event that focuses on maximizing the educational experience and advancing educational opportunities for Latino youth at the University of Toledo. This year’s summit saw a huge turnout, attracting more than 400 high school students in grades 9-12 from the Toledo Public Schools and other High School students from as far away as Ann Arbor, Michigan and Lorain, Ohio.

Throughout the day, students were separated by grades and participated in breakout sessions which allowed them to receive information on applying to the University of Toledo and financial aid. According to the Office of Multicultural Student Success, ninth-grade students experienced a presentation at the Ritter Planetarium. Tenth-grade students experienced hands-on activities by the College of Business and Innovation as well as the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Eleventh graders listened to a presentation from the undergrad admissions followed by a tour of the Main Campus, and twelfth graders heard from a panel of current UToledo students transitioning from high school to college life.

There was also a lunchtime performance by El Corazon de Mexico Ballet Folklorico, based out of the Toledo-Believe Center.

Students were also strongly encouraged to apply for the President’s Summit Award. This award provides ten recipients $2,000 per year for 4 years and includes free on-campus housing for the  first year.
