ANN ARBOR, MI: The A2AC (Ann Arbor Art Center) continues its 2023 gallery season with Wavelengths in the Main Gallery and the Color Shop in the A2AC Shop.
Wavelengths
Wavelengths explores the art and science of color through the lens of 5 artists working in ceramics, neon, letterpress, glass, paper, and textiles. For thousands of years, artists and scientists have sought how the human eye perceives color in the natural world. Each has relied on the other’s experiments, secret knowledge, practices, and documented texts to build on what we know today about how humans see and comprehend color. Wavelengths considers five artists’ use of shape and repetition to create both simple and complex approaches to color.

Opening Night – July 14, 2023
The opening celebration of the colorful exhibition Wavelengths, featuring work by 5 artists in the A2AC Gallery from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Free admission. No registration required.
A2AC PlayLab – August 13, 2023
A2AC PlayLab is a new no-fee family program in the A2AC Gallery. Join us Sunday, August 13 for “Colors in the Jungle” storytime program with Ann Arbor storyteller Laura Raynor from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. Then stay and create a sound and color-based art project. This program is best for ages 3-6 years of age alongside their caregivers. A2AC PlayLab is free and pre-registration is required. Limit 14 families.
Curator/Artist Talk – August 19, 2023
Join us in the A2AC Gallery for a conversation with the artists from Wavelengths alongside A2AC Exhibitions Director and curator Thea A. Eck on August 19 at 11:00 am. Learn more about each artist’s studio practice and how the use of color adds complexity or simplicity to their design practice.
Color Shop
The A2AC will be transformed into a color-filled space this summer! Immerse yourself in a vibrant, color-filled wonderland where art and shopping unite in a unique pop-up event. Step into a world bursting with hues, where every corner unveils a captivating palette that will awaken your senses. Discover a carefully curated collection of artworks by talented local artists, each piece celebrating the beauty and power of a specific color.
Opening Night – July 14, 2023
The opening celebration will take place along with the exhibition opening for Wavelengths, featuring work by 41 shop artists in the A2AC Shop from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Free admission. No registration required.
The public opening reception for both exhibitions will be held in the A2AC Gallery at 117 W. Liberty on Friday, July 14, from 6 to 8 pm with some participating artists in attendance. Wavelengths will be on view from July 14 to August 20, 2023, and Color Shop from July 14 to October 15, 2023.
