The Friends of the Lorain Public Library, Inc. will be hosting a sale at the Main Library in September. While most of their sales are comprised mainly of books culled from the library’s collection and donated by patrons, this sale is special.
“We will of course have lots of great books for sale, but this time we will also have lots of 45s,” says Jay Metzger, Friends member and book sale coordinator. “A gentleman came in with boxes and boxes of old single records. There must be several hundred, if not a thousand.”
The records will be available for 25 cents each during the sale. Parties interested in obtaining more than just a few can speak with Friends representatives during the sale.
The sale will take place Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 18 through Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 is Nickel Day and Thursday, Sept. 21 is Penny Day.
Friends’ members will have an opportunity to shop early during the Friends-only Preview on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. New members may join and current members may renew their membership that evening.
Due to a lack of storage prior to this sale, the Friends ask that patrons hold on to any additional donations until October. “We are just overwhelmed with the generosity of the community,” says Metzger. “Literally overwhelmed – our storage room cannot hold any more. Once we clear out space with our September sale, we can begin accepting donations again in October.”
Come October, the Friends group will accept gently used fiction and nonfiction hardcover and paperback books, DVDs in their original case, music CDs in a plastic sleeve or plastic case, puzzles or games that are not missing any pieces and the following materials if they are less than two years old: computer books, test prep books, health or medical books and travel.
Donations for the Friends group can be made to the Main Library or South Lorain Branch during regular business hours. Please do not leave donated materials outside the branch entrance when closed.
The final sale of the year will be the annual Book Sale and Bazaar, Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Toni Morrison Room at the Main Library.
The Main Library is located at 351 W. Sixth Street in Lorain and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
