MOUNT PLEASANT, MI, September 30, 2023: The Central Michigan Chippewas start the MAC season with a win over the visiting Eastern Michigan Eagles and move to 3-2. With a seesaw scoring game, and 6 lead changes, it looked as if the game was headed to overtime. However, with :51 seconds remaining, Jesus Gomez’s, 46 yard field goal attempt failed to go thru the uprights and the CMU ran the clock out to secure the win.
CMU’s Jase Bauer, Quarterback (#8) threw for 218 yards and had one touchdown in the air and was picked off once. Myles Bailey, Running Back (#26) led the home team in rushing with 92 yards on 14 carries. Defensively, Kyle Moretti, Linebacker (#22) led the team with 10 tackles, including 2 sacks.
For the visiting Eagles, Austin Smith, Quarterback (#4) threw for 186 yards and one touchdown. Smith also led the team in rushing with 71 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown. Chase Kline, Linebacker (#6) was the leading tackler for EMU with 12.
Next week, both Teams will continue their MAC season and face a 1-4 team. EMU will host the Ball State Cardinals and CMU will travel to Buffalo.
