La Calma originated in 2007 on the South Side of San Antonio, Texas. Band owner Leonel Correa and partner Eddie Perez formed the band due to their love of music and both coming off of the road with other well known artists. Eddie Perez is the former bajo sexto player, guitarist and bassist for Joe Lopez, Bobby Pulido and Emilio Navaira. Leonel Correa once traveled with Eddie Gonzalez as an accordionist and got his start as a young child with his father’s band- Los Leoncitos. Currently, La Calma is a 4 piece band that can cater to any crowd. With Eddie Perez Jr. on drums, Jeremy Rodriguez on Bajo Sexto, La Calma is undoubtedly one of the premier up and coming bands coming out of the state of Texas. La Calma chose their name due to front man Leonel Correa’s soft but unique voice that can be heard in their songs. The band considers themselves a Tejano/Norteño Lite style band, but can adjust to any crowd. They play Conjunto medleys and their cumbias will make you bust a move. They are multi- Tejano Music Award nominees and won “Best New Group” in the year 2013. They make their way to the Midwest for the first time since 2015 and are excited to play for the people of northwest, Ohio.
