The return to normalcy in a post-pandemic world continues and will keep Latino couples and families quite busy with a lot of spring and summer fun on tap.

Cinco de Mayo events and observances unofficially kick off the fun on Friday, May 5, 2023.

Yvonne y Grupo Fuego and Texas-based singer Gary Hobbs will co-headline a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Eastside Cantina, 125 Oak St., Toledo. VIP tables and food will be available. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Grupo Dezeo will provide musical entertainment 8 p.m.-midnight, at the Great Black Swamp Brewing Company, 2250 Tedrow Rd., Toledo. Dancing, drink specials, and a food truck will be featured at the free Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Grupo Eslabono and DJ El Pajaro will play the next evening at St. Clements Hall, 3030 Tremainsville Rd., Toledo, at a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta to benefit SS. Peter and Paul Church. There will be food and beverages available for sale. Tickets are on sale for $20 per individual and $30 per couple by calling 419.241.5822. Children under 12 are admitted free.

The Leukemia Lymphoma Society is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta fundraiser at the new Glass City Metropark Glass City Pavilion, 1001 Front St., Toledo. Events include a night of live music, a Mexican dinner, margaritas, and tequila to benefit children and adults fighting blood cancer. Tickets priced at $100 each must be purchased in advance online at www.eventbrite.com.

 

The Toledo Zoo is hosting its annual family-friendly Cinco de Mayo celebration at its historic Amphitheatre on Sunday, May 7, 2023, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. DJ Tony Rios and El Corazón de Mexico Folklorico dance troupe will provide the entertainment. There also will be fun cultural crafts and activities. The fun and celebration are included with regular zoo admission.

The zoo is also hosting a new Cinco de Mayo-themed event May 5, 6-9 p.m., called Tequila and Tapas. Admission includes six tequila samples, six food tasting samples, indoor and outdoor sampling stations, and musical entertainment. The Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center (SQACC) is hosting its annual fundraiser Friday, May 19, 5:30 p.m. Entre Amigos! will showcase its urban farm programs at the event, which also features dinner, a new spring art exhibition, a cash bar, raffle prizes, and shopping at the nonprofit’s Tiendita. Tickets are $40 per individual, $70 per couple, and $130 per family of four, and can be reserved by calling 419.241.1655 or purchased online at SQACC’s website, https://www.sqacc.org.

Grupo Temible, Grupo Dezeo, and Yvonne y Grupo Fuego will provide the entertainment at the JoJo Strong benefit Saturday, May 20, 8 p.m.-1 a.m., at the International Event Center, 5050 Jackman Rd., Toledo. There will be raffles, a cash bar, and food available at the 21 and over event. Tickets at the door will be $15 per person.
