These cookies are inspired by the traditional Mexican polvorones—buttery, tender cookies with a delicate cinnamon-sugar finish. They’ve become a beloved family classic thanks to Mother Noemi (Mimi) Leija , who lovingly makes them for her children, grandchildren, and anyone lucky enough to be part of her world. Each batch carries the warmth of her kitchen and the sweetness of her heart.

Ingredients:
– 4 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 cups Crisco (butter flavor)
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
– 1/2 cup water or milk

For Dusting:
– Additional sugar and cinnamon (mixed to taste)

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Make the dough:
In a large bowl, combine flour, Crisco, sugar, cinnamon, and water or milk. Mix until a smooth dough forms.

3. Roll out the dough:
Lightly flour a clean surface. Roll dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.

4. Cut out cookies:
Use cookie cutters to make desired shapes.

5. Bake:
Place cookies on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 350°F until lightly browned.

6.Dust with cinnamon sugar:
While cookies are still warm, sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

7. Cool:
Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
